I'm curious if anyone has contacted their county supervisor yet. I'd be willing to but not sure the best way to frame the email or phone call. I did some googling but couldn't find much on my supervisor regarding his positions on things. I already have my permit, but I'm all for speeding up the process. Anyone know the current wait time? I live in Winchester so no local PD I can approach.

November 2017 is the last appt date that I've heard of. One place to start might be to see which supervisors voted on the resolution for the Sheriff issuing more permits in 2010. It would be nice to take that vote back to the supervisor and see if they'll stand by it.

I'm a new Corona resident. Is our Police Chief terribly anti-CCW?

If it comes to that, you have to wonder if the Police Chiefs of the local cities of Lake Elsinore, Perris, Temecula, Moreno Valley, Fallbrook, Murrieta, etc. will be Pro CCW or will have very high standards to meet Good Cause compared to the County Sheriff. Hopefully all will be Pro CCW.

Most of the cities within the western portion of Riverside County are contract cities, meaning that the RSD provides police services for them and they don't have their own police departments. Because of that, they don't have police chiefs that can issue CCW permits. For those cities you must go through the county.

Fallbrook is contract by San Diego Sheriff's Office, one of the parties in the Peruta case. Not CCW friendly at all.

I almost wouldn't be surprised if chief brown started accepting/issuing.

Non-contract cities like Corona, Murrieta, Hemet etc. it would be most appropriate to bring your desire to have CCWs issued by your Police Chief to the City Council and City Manager. Even if the Chief is pro CCW and is willing to issue them his/ her hands may be tied by the council and the city managers who are his/ her boss. Your best chance would be to start another thread all together and find cal-gunners from your city, start a petition and bring it before the council.

Within an incorporated city with its own PD, a lot of matters are not up to the chief but rather the city manager and city council. The chief is not elected to position, but instead appointed/hired by city manager/council. Even if a chief is supportive of issuing, he will not do so unless it is blessed by city management.

Corona uses a round robin type of program for mayor, where the city council appoints one of its own every couple of years. A previous mayor and current council member, Eugene Montanez, was listed among the ranks for Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns. I do not see the current mayor listed as such, nor do I know the other council members' views on 2A, but would not think it to be great.

Does RSD call and give you a reminder letting you know your appointment is coming up considering it a year and a half away?

I don't believe so, it's the applicants responsibility.
They are busy enough, as is.
