A few of us are at week 5 of the 2-4 week wait for pickup. It's very frustrating, it feels more like the CCW unit just stood down in this final phase. I try not to let it color my days but for several months, it has.

You are not the only one, you should hear my friends complain about it. Both are at 15 months and counting. You are farther along than they are, yet applied over a month later than they did, which shows the lack of supervision in the unit to insure the applications are processed as they were received. While Sheriff V led the way in issuance, sadly it appears to be short lived. They have both said they won't be voting for him in November.Comment

I'm with you brother, it's so frustrating. When I emailed the unit a few days ago, and they responded they are backed up, and it should be 1 to 2 more weeks. This gave me a little hope, as I was almost done with this process.Comment

I've been watching for almost a 1 1/2 yrs. I'm sure some people are going to be displeased with my comment. Like they say: "You can please some of the people all of the time, all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time." My two cents...... Some are frustrated with the processing time for the CCW. Comments here and there about this and that. There is roughly 1333 applications for each Deputy assigned to the unit with more arriving daily. Anything relating to Law Enforcement requires every step must be documented. Candidates interviewed! When there is a hiccup found during background checks more time and effort is needed. You want to vent, I agree, vent it is frustrating. How about you pick up the phone and call your Rep on the Board or Supervisors and direct you venting toward them. They control the budget, they cut the budget, with their purse strings they limit the number of Academy classes. Not enough personnel and Unit(s) will never be staffed at the level needed to provide effective services to the community. This is affecting every Substation (Patrol, Homicide, Burglary, and on and on). You're whining about the time it takes to get a CCW when these budget cuts affect other critical areas too. People keep this in perspective and keep your eye on the ball. I bet everyone sometime in their life had to the best they could with they had at the time.....and what they had at the time wasn't nearly enough! This is very much what is happening. You want things to change; then, get off your dime and make the change. Pick up the phone and start calling your elected Representative(s) and letting them know their budget constraints are directly affecting your Second Amendment rights.28 May 2021 CCW Application Submitted

Your post encouraged me to jump over to some of the other threads from other counties and wow what a difference in time frames. People in Orange County that applied in July already have interview dates.
You mention how many applications each Deputy has. Have you ever considered why a deputy has to process the paperwork?sigpic

Your not wrong, it takes so long because they choose to do it the long, hard way. With the Bruen decision, anyone that can legally buy a gun should be able to get a permit. The process could be easy and fast:
Do a livescan or provide a completed DROS number that you bought a gun in the last 30-60 days and are legal to own firearms.
Take training, get the certificate.
Get a passport photo
Fill out the application and turn it in, by mail or electronicaly, with the training docs, proof you can own firearms, and a check for $150. Done. Other states do this everyday and it works just fine, takes 4-6 weeks max.
I've seen the light. I will call my rep, Anthony Portantino, he will get right on helping me restore my 2nd amendment privileges. LOL

Thank you. The Government (in this case LASD) has a mandate to perform in a timely manner. If they choose to employ ridiculous, unnecessary processes, then it is on THEM to staff accordingly. If they cannot, they should be changing their process or blanket approving apps after the 90 days mandated response time.
Case in point, if the ATF can't conduct their background check in 3 days, they have to release the firearm anyway, because they are otherwise obstructing exercise of a right.
No one should be making excuses for their incompetence.

I know Amendment 152 was mentioned here, but does anyone know the specifics of who will be grandfathered in with the previous application process?
I did my interview already so hoping I can stick with the non SB918 application process but I have yet to confirm that and was curious if anyone else knows who will be able to continue like it used to beComment
