Can I make a suggestion? The FAQs you mentioned were a bit hard to find even after your hint that they found at the beginning of this thread, because they are about a page into that first post and no indication that there are FAQs. Without the hint, most people will never find them. You want to make this idiot proof because a lot of new idiots are starting out this process and will not read the 12,000 posts that came before. Maybe change the thread title to something like "LA County -- Read first post for FAQs". Then revise the first post title to indicate very prominently at the top that "these are the FAQs, read them". The other stuff that appears above the FAQs now (like links to the application website, Paladin comments, etc.) could be folded into the FAQs, but devote the first part of the thread entirely to the FAQs. Yes, I play an idiot on TV.

For everyone that is new to the forum and first time applying. The instrutions are in black in white and it's pretty simple. Just fill out the required fields and you are good to go. Just make sure you can back up your GC statement. I don't know how it is now since the latest ruling but don't just put "for self defense." Try to make a bit of an effort. You still have to be of good moral character in their eyes. At the time when I was applying, I wrote three full paragraphs and had to back up everything that I said with proof.

You can find the application and intructions on the website below.

Yes LA County. I guess I could just mail it in but it was a little frustrating to be turned away.

BTW he was adamant and said this is new and the website was wrong. I made the strategic decision not to argue.

Yes, the deputy was not wrong (LA County) and they asked for the live scan when I was turning in my application to my local sheriff's station. When I went to do the live scan, the person who was doing the live scan told me that the reason behind this is they want to escalate the process and by the date of your interview, you already get the clearance for your background check. The person told me that they are getting an average of 5 applicants per day for CCW live scan. The live scan center gives you 2 copies; one for you, and one for your application with the ATI number on it. Just make sure you do the right live scan form, on the form it should say it is for CCW. I turned my application with my live scan form with my application to my local sheriff's station. The deputy was very knowledgeable and helpful, and he carefully review my application with me, then he took my money order and cashed it, and gave me a receipt for the $30 money order. I had a very good experience with my local sheriff's department.

Please keep in mind that livescan has exparation - 6 months. So, if you don't get to the review/interview in 6months, you'd have to re-do it

For the record, the website and the instructions for submitting your application clearly state you can submit to your local substation OR mail it. It's right there at the top of the application instructions.

My thinking was it gets in and I know it was received. With the post office, it's a holiday weekend so I knew it would be a few days behind. And with all the people applying I hoped I would be in line a little sooner. That might not be the case but it was an idea. That being said I was turned away at the substation so I will figure it out next week.

I applied in June 2021, interviewed in March 2022. Every week after when I applied has added about 2-3 week to those getting interviews. It was the same for me.. I was about 2-3 weeks after the people that applied 1 week before me. It was the same for the background check, mine took about 4 weeks longer than those who filed a week before me. The backlog is just getting worse with each passing day.
