I work freelance, so I get a customer, he/she tell me what they want, I suggest parts, how much they are, how much my work is, and if it's agreeable, I do it.

Do you buy the parts and then bill them for the completed unit, or do they provide the parts and you just bill for your labor?

It can be either way, but more often I purchase everything, throw it together and then deliver working unit that they can start using right away

You can probably provide receipts for all the parts you purchase, and copies of invoices for your customers would be a big help too. If you're not doing them yet, start doing them so you have them for your interview.

Thanks to COVID, I had to put things on hold for a while, so best I can do is supply him with invoices from my last build prior to all this mess. I guess it will do to start, and I can email additional proofs/etc if he needs it
