I put a call into the ACSO office today, and they told me the following are required. I made sure to note that they should legally only require the DOJ application, but she insisted that it did not matter, that I needed to submit the following:
    -Letter of justification
    -ACSO Application
    -DOJ Application

    Business Owners:
    -Business license
    -Bank statements

    Employees applying for work:
-Statement from employer outlining need to carry

While I think adding the PC section is a noble idea, the fact is that they can deny you (and will), and reject your application citing any other flaw in the application that they can exploit.

I also failed to mention that I consulted an LEO that has dinner with Ahern on the regular with some other political figures. Turns out, they flat don't give out CCW's to civilians, and don't see that stance changing anytime in the future.

I think it's premature to expect applications to be processed with (or without) GC being defined as self defense/protection before a disposition is announced by the Ninth Circuit Court on whether Peruta goes en banc. If (on the other hand) any county Sheriff processes applications with good cause being defined as self-defense/protection, then they will have to process the rest because of 14th Amendment equal protection, no?

I still think that the Attorney General cannot intervene because Peruta was not a facial attack in which an entire statute was struck, it was an as-applied challenge to a provision of a statute, correct?

          Erik.

I know this will be shocking to you, but they're lying....

Go to the Alameda County info and you'll see Hayward (as of 2013 Dec 13), had issued 7 CCWs for its reserve officers. They can't issue for their folks and not for the public. But unless you're willing to sue them over it, best just to deal with the sheriff.

I'll edit my post above to scratch off Hayward PD.

They distinguished the motion to intervene from the motion for en banc rehearing.

They also admit the standard may change once Peruta is finalized.

But then again, I am not surprised their attitude has improved because, if you go thru all my thread over the past 6 years (), you will see that I've long said to view CA anti sheriffs not as the "chief law enforcement officers of the county", but rather as merely "politicians w/badges and guns." I've long said if the winds blow against them, they'll QUICKLY turn saying, "Gee, I REALLY wanted to issue CCWs for mere 'self-defense,' but that darn ol' AG's opinion made me think I couldn't. I'm sooo glad the federal courts cleared that up. REELECT ME!!!" Pure sleaze....

Look at how polite Ahern's office is now. When I contacted them some 4 years ago, I had to threaten them with legal action just to get them to mail me an application. (For newbies: they didn't have ANY info about CCWs on their website until about 2-3 years ago, then it was just a number to call for info. It was only about the past year they've put the app and info up online.... )

Even last year they wouldn't send me the app. It was just before they put it online.

I thought already they said they would hold applications without 'Good Cause' pending the final outcome of Peruta?

The letter is a little unclear-- they seem to be saying 'let us know if you have a real good cause so we can process it now'. But they don't say they whether they will still hold it for later processing post-Peruta if you don't.

Just dropped off my paperwork (DOJ app, Alameda County App and good cause letter) on the 7th floor with Judy at the desk. She quickly reviewed my paperwork and was very nice. She did mention that the next step would be thru her to schedule an interview.

Be polite and professional. If (when) they start feeding you a bunch of bull about why/how they can deny you dont get defensive or try to correct them. Document everythinng and be prepared to contact CGF if necassary.
