That is a very fun question. When one compares the two, the main difference is the thumb print, but it is hard to believe the thumb print on the paper permit is useful for any real purpose. A good version of our fingerprints is on file, tied to the permit number on the card.
I am thinking that the DoJ folks are overwhelmed with work, and likely under-staffed, both due in part to the COVID situation. I changed my address with CFARS in June. When I went to buy ammo two weeks ago, the address the system showed for me was the old address. The guy at LAX Ammo said there are only 5 people working on such things and they were months behind.
Perhaps this explains the delay?
Clearly, the SDSO is motivated to move to just one permit, as they are having to do double work (sort of) today.

I wonder what is taking so long on approving the credit card permit?Leave a comment:

Kate, Congrats! Can I ask how many are on your paper permit? I have 3 on my card and all 6 on my paper permit. Despite my explaining this to a local "expert" on the subject, He insisted that people are being issued multiple cards with three each for as many cards as it takes.
I'd love to hear from anybody with more than 3. How was it done for you?
I have only the original 3 weapons on my permit.
The reality for me is that I would be fine with just one. When I first thought about what weapons to put on the permit, I used essentially my 3 smallest guns. In the fullness of time, I came to realize I was only really comfortable with the largest of those 3, and it was mostly concealable. I never carry the other 2. It _might_ be nice to have a more full-sized gun on the list to have something bigger in the car perhaps, but that would not be as convenient as the one that is with me all the time.
The main reason I came to carry just the one was I trained with that one the most. I would try to stay current with all 3 on the permit, but all of my dry practice, and the vast majority of the live fire was done with just the one. Personally, I don't think I have time to remain sufficiently proficient with 3 weapons, much less 6.
But to try to answer your actual question, when I asked Jessica about more than 3, she said they were on the paper permit and the one paper permit can get quite long. The way they print the paper permit, though, makes me wonder what happens if the list goes past the edge of the paper. It looked to me that the practical number of weapons on the permit is 25 or 30. Which, seems pretty impractical to me. But that's just me...
I think your Expert is, um... perplexed...
Since the credit card one is not official, just the 3 are fine on it. (And, really, the only purpose today of the credit card permit is for use as Gov Issued photo ID)

And one more possible anomaly:
The previous permit was issued on 9/11/2018, and expired on 9/10/2020.
The current permit was issued on 9/24/202, and expires on 9/24/2022.
IOW, I get one whole day extra!!
Wooo Hooo!!

Today I arrived at the SDCSO at 1:47, I waited 14 minutes and was out by 2:10.
That is not news.
I asked about the number of weapons one might put on the permit. She said it was unlimited. I mentioned that the credit card version had space for only 5 or 6. She pointed to the back of the credit card permit, which now says, "See Official DOJ CCW Paper Permit for full listing of verified weapons." She said the paper version could be as long as you needed...

Agreed. Once you finish with Permitium, don’t bother logging in to check status.Leave a comment:

Another update: The Sheriff's Office called me today. They asked about updates to my GCS. I pointed out the updates at the end of the GCS I had pasted into the form, which was my GCS from last time. She confirmed my appointment on Thursday, and said good bye. So, it _seems_ like things are still on track.
Also, after the call, I checked in Permitium, and it STILL shows that a processor will be assigned shortly. Clearly, what Permitium thinks is not all that close to reality....

Submitted online about 7.5 weeks ahead of time. I will have a gap of about 1 week. Not too bad. They seem to be getting a bit caught up rather than getting worse.Leave a comment:

Be sure to use the test feature if there is one (usually a link somewhere after you click the link for the zoom meeting or on the page with the link) a short time before the meeting. Some times you'll need to download an app etc to get things going.Leave a comment:

Pretty sure these are ones that were released by news media when they reported CCWs were being issued in much greater numbers than before.
We got a little worried they would release names. Thankfully that was not the case. Definitely successful Gore era of the last couple years.Leave a comment:
