I've been avoiding the site because of the speed issues. It is like traveling back in time to 2400 baud dial up on Netscape Navigator. Painfully slow.

It took 2 minutes and 40 seconds from the time I clicked "post" before the site responded.

Somone please contact zonerdck as calguns.net has been crawling this entire weekend and I am in a location with a download speed of 52.9 Mbps and upload 36.8 Mbps and 6ms ping so it is definitely not the connection.

Would it help at all to selectively move out some of threads that have been dead for five years? Not drop them, but 'archive' them in a separate place than the rest of the traffic?

Then people could search on the current database and separately on the archives if they didn't get what they want.

Databases just run better when they're smaller and less cluttered.

I was thinking the same thing, as it was so slow I thought it was a DDoS, as all the Anti-s are trollin' even FB now a days... however, because www.calguns.net works fine, and it only drags when you hit the /calgunforum/. I have been trying to get here for >25 min-ish now.

We ran into an official "bug" that only happens under extremely high load - my database people are working on it.

EDIT: well - make that somewhat better speed again. Still need more horsepower at the app layer it seems.
