If you mom was buying a gun that you could not purchase and the indication was that she had no interest in the gun, it seems like they acted according to the law.

    What am I missing?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

OP, you cant legally acquire the firearm, tough luck.

If your mom really wanted the gun why didnt she just go and get it? I'm just not sure what role you play in this unless the gun was actually for you. The whole situation seems far more likely is you wanted the ak, talked your mom into going with you to get it for you, and then she was upset when she was told what you wanted to do was illegal by the store clerk.

Bravo on framing the story like you're the victim and everything was on the up-and-up, but the most likely situation is usually the true one. And the most likely situation here is that a teenager talked his mom into a straw purchase for him. Your situation isnt helped by you posting wtb ads for an ak pistol before this adventure.

Wait till you're old enough, leave your parents at home and handle it yourself.

Even if your mom was buying it for you: From 4473: "You are also the actual transferee/buyer if you are legitimately purchasing the firearm as a gift for a third party."

Transfer or loan of a rifle or shotgun by a parent to a juvenile is also legal.

I find the fact that this all went sideways odd.

I have never purchased a gun from Riflegear, but have done a PPT there. They have a great reputation amongst my friends and my experience there was no less.

ETA: I missed that it was a PAP... still seems odd to me, but it is their prerogative.

I normally do not post things like this... Riflegear

So you can't get the firearm and you get your mother to go buy if for you. That's a pretty clear looking of a straw purchase.

RG had every right to deny the sale. Who's cares if your mother or you were offended. Your one sale wasn't Worth them losing a business over.

The way you have interacted in this thread clearly states it was a straw purchase. If you mother has bought 35-40 guns then she didn't need you one bit in buying an off the wall AKpistol. You messed up the deal. Not RG, not your mother but YOU.

Carry on and grow up a bit and quit whining about your mother being offended. I would have told you to kick rocks too. Hopefully the next store tells you the same thing.

you could have easily acted disinterested and texted on your phone like every other teenager in the world while she purchased the pistol for herself and there would have been no problems.

                live and learn.

Sounded like a Straw puchase to me.. Who goes into a gun store and tries to buy a gun for "us". With one being unable to legally purchase a firearm.. Firearms are to be sokd to individuals, to families.

I think Rifle gear was right, you are prohibited from being able to buy a gun. It's not worth the risk of losing their FFL.

I've gone to a dozen gun stores with my wife and kids and have never had a problem. I've DROS'd multiple long guns with my wife standing right next to me. I was buy them all for myself, I asked all the questions, filled out the paper work and even mentioned to my wife, I'm gonna make this one super light so you can hold it up all day. The clerk didn't seem concerned with anything except telling everyone that entered the store that on 1/1/14 every thing you see behind him and in the case will be banned.

I think it's a matter of how you and your mom were carrying yourselves. I think my wife and I never raise the red flag because my wife is always a little preoccupied with the kids, she doesn't act at all interested in what I'm looking at or what the clerk and I are chatting about. Somethings I've bought with the preconceived notion that my wife will love to shoot this .22 pistol or a certain rifle. We've never had a problem with anyone anywhere ever thinking it's a straw purchase. I have a feeling you were acting very interested in the gun, maybe one of you even mentioned it was for you.

I think there's a big difference between buying a gun that some else would likely enjoy shooting and buying a gun for someone else. There can only be one owner of a firearm, no group ownership. If I wanna give my wife a gun we have to fill out the form and send in a check. Which we have never done everything remains mine.

Learn your lesson and go somewhere else or stay home next time. I'm sorry you feel burned, I'm sure you were very excited about the purchase but understand it's not worth the risk for the FFL. Don't hold any grudges or take it personal, Rifle Gear was just playing by the rule book.
