So I was at a local gun store yesterday and was looking at 9mm handguns. I went down to Center Mass a couple days ago and rented a Springfield Xd9 and liked it. But its very similar to the glock. So wanted to feel up some other options. I really liked the feel of the S&W MP, it comes included with the purchase 3 different back straps for the handgrip. The medium felt really great for my small hand. Just wanted to throw out another option for you to look at.

I have a girl friend who is also wanting to do a two-tone firearm. I did the footwork for her and found this website (located outside of CA though). I read a review that they sometimes get really backed up so if you're not looking to get your firearm in a rush then you could try this place. Good luck!

There is no such thing. Certain guns are good for certain individuals - none are gender-specific.

I agree. Rent them and try them out. The main thing I think will be the size of your hands. I have relatively small hands and eventually settled on the M&P9. I pick it up tomorrow!

I know a few people who are interested in guns but aren't really knowledgeable enough to teach another person. I took the beginners NRA pistol course (stuff I knew but still helpful) and just read up on it. Whatever model you are choosing you should go to the manufacturer's website and read the entire manual. I know it sounds overkill but you'll at least learn about it. It's what got me more in depth with the firearm that I chose. You can always get suggestions and hints from people on a forum but if you honestly don't know enough take a class. Some and inexpensive and some are overly priced. You just need to search for yourself and compare prices. The best manual I suggest reading is "NRA guide to the basics of pistol shooting." I find it to be a great reference for anyone who doesn't know anything about guns. But, I highly suggest you a class from someone who is trained in teaching others if you really want to learn about firearms.

Unless you get a newer E2 version, you may find that the SIG handguns have really wide grips.

Don't overlook the Browning p-35 Hipower! A tad expensive, but a great and reliable shooter for us all steel and wood fans. try one out if you can,you won't be disappointed.
Mine has never failed me, is accurate and great home defense gun.
