smurfette, have you gone to a range with rental guns yet and some out? that's the best way. getting a handgun is like buying a pair of jeans: you've gotta try them on before you buy.

there's a sweet 3913 for sale by a calgunner in the private sales forum. its not a ladysmith but it is in northern california and worth consideration.

I guess I would ask what you want to use it for. I have a Glock 17 which is kind of large but it is a good range gun. I also shot a 1911 style which I liked too but that is large as well. I shot a Lady Smith which everyone says is a good gun but I did not care for it. I want to find a much smaller 9mm so I need to go the range and try out some different makes/models.

I have small hand and some guns I just can't use. I think it is good advice for you to go to the local range and rent a few to see what you like. Also go to your local gun store and take a look at a few and see how they fit your hand.

Now personally I like Glocks and find that my hands work fine for most models. But you're either a Glock lover or a hater. I've also recently decided to get a 9mm for some cheaper ammo options, I will probably go the Glock route but am going to keep an open mind and go rent some before I decide.

I echo the others in saying that there really isn't a particular gun that is specifically good for the female gender over others. It all depends on your hand, your grip and for what reason you need the gun. Rent a few at the range or try a friend's to see what meets your needs. A friend let me shoot his Glock and his Sig Sauer. The Sig was "fancier", but it just wasn't right for me at the time. Glad I tried something for myself.

I went to the range with my friend, and I was using his... don't know what kinda gun it was though.. was pretty small..

Get what is comfortable for you. I have a Glock and Sig Sauer. Both good guns, but feel different. Hold both and see what your preferance is!

The 9mm pistols I've shot are: WW II Luger, Glock 19, Glock 26, XD fullsize and compact, Sig P226, Berreta 92, and Kahr CW9. And if I had only one pistol to buy to fit into range and self defense roles I would get the Glock 19 or Xd variants. I was the most accurate with those pistols and I like their simplicity and reliability. Picking a pistol really depends on the user its good to try a lot of different pistols. Pistol shooting is a lot different than shooting rifles and shotguns I found out when I first got into shooting pistols because any small thing you do really affects your accuracy. So I would suggest picking a pistol that you can get a real good grip on and that has a trigger pull that you like. When your happy with those factors you'll end up with a pistol you'll enjoy shooting. Hope that helps. : )

I love my M&P and the interchangeable grips, but I shot at least 6 different 9mm's before deciding it was the one I was really comfortable with. Renting/trying is definitely worthwhile. For small hands, you may want to look at one of the guns with changeable backstrap/grips. Also, the Ruger SR9 has a very slim grip which works well for smaller hands.

No matter what, get what's comfortable for you, and what YOU shoot well. Do NOT worry about what other people like/think/say. If it's a modern firearm from a major manufacturer, you should be fine. Get the gun YOU like.

try gunroom in elk grove. they have a bunch to choose from and have always let me exchange a bunch to try out different models for no additional charge. ive taken a lot of women shooting, and if they can handle 9mm, they usually prefer bigger, heavier pistols due to less recoil, but if youre of a tougher mindset, then you should be able to get past it. i just say glock 19, cause its a bit smaller frame, light weight, low recoil, cheap, and if you change your mind, youll get almost all of your money back if you decide to sell it and buy something else. if you wanna try one out for free, let me know if youre near sacramento.
