I had a similar situation with my GF before. She was doing the transfer on a used Saiga and she was familiar with the firearm since I had one, but when we met with the other guy to do the PPT she wanted me to check it out first since I had more knowledge about the weapon. The FFL got suspicious and told her that he thought it was a straw purchase. She stood up for herself and told him the manufacturer, model, where it was made, that it was imported by Russian American Armory, and the caliber of the rifle. He asked her to show how it functioned which she did and he was satisfied. Sorry it didn't work out for you. If I was in your boyfriends position I would have just purchased it myself. You can always do the tranfer into your name later for the cost of a PPT. Or like everyone else said, you can just go in and buy it by yourself.Last edited by chaseface; 05-21-2011, 12:57 PM.Comment

"The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

Nope. Sometimes I can be pretty dense when it comes to men hitting on me; but, I am certain this guy wasn't. It's hard to explain, but the tone of his voice was along the lines of, "If you had to bring a man with you to do the deal, then I would have had less respect for you and would have negotiated a tougher deal."
At any rate, speaking of men acting lame.....
I was at the gun show today and stopped at one booth to check out a rack of 870s. The vendor invitied me to have a closer look by saying, "You can pick them up." Since I was just eyeballing one of the upgrades, I said, "Oh no thanks, I'm good." To which he replied, "It's not that heavy."
I'd call him a "punk" except he was an older gentleman and perhaps he's not used to women shopping for firearms. I can't believe he said that....as if I thought the 870 might be too heavy for my delicate little lady arms.

This right here! OP, sorry you felt discriminated but he has something more to worry about than even his job and thats prison. We all know how ATF and DOJ operate on a shady level and sometimes try to bait employees and fib about how a transaction went down. If your boyfriend was the one handling the firearm more than you and tried to take control, also if you asked him if you could buy it, the employee was more than likely CYA.Maybe discrimination/maybe not. who knows.
It may have something to do with the fact that there many people who go into these stores and attempt to have the Girlfriend purchase the firearm "For" the boyfriend.
Maybe because She wants one in her name/maybe because he wants the gun, but is prohibited from purchasing for legal reasons.
This is called a Straw purchase and is illegal.
Maybe the Asst Mgr was thinking he was preventing a straw purchase/maybe he was being a jerk. Who knows.
I hope you two find a place to get your shotgun.
I've had customers from every walk of life try to pull straw sales ranging from the guy with prison tattoos to the shirt and tie guy who beat his wife. This in no way insinuating that he is one of those guys at all but just look at it from thier perspective.
The best way I've seen so far for a guy to help his girl/mom/sister ect buy a firearm was that the customer instantly came up to me and said, "we are here to buy a gun for my mom, I already own firearms and I am here to help her with a decision." He got turned down from an other place because he handled the guy the whole time, barely let his mom touch it and said the classic words, "I'll take it."Buy my EO Tech XPS3-0!!!
For those nutjobs who like to use the word "gouge"
Note: I did not write the above article.

Since we haven't heard from So Cal shooter in this thread again, does anyone want to take bets if the delicate armed badkitty clubbed him with the 870 or shot him?
But on a somewhat ironic serious note, last time I was in Big 5, the counter employee was showing a lot more courtesy to a guy asking if there was anyway he could get around the DROS and DOJ process then proceeded to ask the counter employee what specifically would prohibit him from owning a gun. I don't think the employee was going to do anything about it other than be courteous, but still boggled my mind he would spend that much time with that customer.Comment

This. I rarely check the ladies forum anymore since there is too much drama on here all the time!
Men need to understand that women just like to vent sometimes.
Soldier, thank you for the clarification.
why can't the guys take their fight into their own sandpit? isn't there a forum elsewhere that would be appropriate to continue this argument?
this is the ladies forum. why are guys duking it out here? i understand the desire to make sure accurate info is given. but that does not seem to be the purpose of the exchange....give it a break guys.

I also think the ladies forum is kind of sad. I've tried and so many others have tried to keep it fun.
One day I thought about messaging Kestryll about a forum women could talk to about shooting. Men too could chime in but it would be a forum where I could talk about things like sling placement, my hatred of 1911's, etc. with other WOMEN.
I realized - oh yeah that's the ladies forum's purpose.
I kind of checked out when some guy (post got deleted) questioned my sexual orientation when I asked whether some women preferred AR's or Mini's.

The cure: Buy a Mosin M44 and shoot 100 rounds as fast as you can. When you can handle that, you are good to go.7.62X54R Скалы

Technically there isn't a difference. The son is still prohibited from purchasing a firearm, so even though his record is clean, the father is still doing a straw purchase.Yes, a 20 year old can have their father buy them a handgun. The difference?
Sounds like a straw purchase:
"Let me fill that out, he isn't eligible to do it"
Buying a gift for a son
"I'll fill that out since I'm buying it as a gift for my son"
You really don't see the difference even though the end result is the same?
And weren't you done here?
It's been my observation that you should never state or even imply that the gun you're registering is for anyone else other than yourself. If you're buying it for a significant other, create a layaway in her name, pay it off, and then have her register it herself. If you plan on giving it to a son or daughter, that's your own business, and not for the clerk to know about. That way there's nothing that would give the clerk the idea that it's a straw purchase.
For the OP, yes, as a woman buying a gun with her boyfriend in tow, that does tend to start to raise flags. Make sure that you're assertive, and do your research before coming in. Make sure that your questions are phrased in ways that refer to you. "How well will this gun fit me?" If you go in knowing nothing, and ask your boyfriend lots of questions after the clerk says something, that just screams straw purchase.Last edited by CrippledPidgeon; 05-26-2011, 7:01 PM.Comment

The best part is that even if he was trying to prevent a straw purchase, he almost pushed them into one inadvertently.Originally posted by NorCalK9.comHecka funny all my friends with AR's call them "clips" but I call them bullet holder things lolOriginally posted by MikeRSo suck it HK, If I wanted an $800 pistol with a crap trigger I would just go buy 2 Glocks.Comment
