    Front Site Questionj

Ladies, Am new to CALGUNS...this is my first posting.

I am headed to Front Site outside Las Vegas NV in April for a four day shooting class. Would like to know if anyone out there has been to Front Site and can recommend a good hotel, not too far away. I've been told most of the hotels nearby are not very good and kind of "tired". Can anybody give me any info?

My wife and I stay at the Silverton in south Las Vegas. It is the closest Vegas hotel, and adds about 20 minutes over the Pahrump commute. It is right on Blue Diamond road, which is the turnoff for Pahrump off I-15. We stayed in Pahrump once, but my wife will no longer stay there. The Silverton has nice clean rooms, is fairly priced, and has a Starbucks inside (dont go shooting without one). We will be there for the 2 day skill builder in early April as well. Good time of year weather wise...

    Oh, and welcome to Calguns.

      Front Sight Hotels

A buddy and I attended Front Sight last year and stayed at the Saddle West Hotel in Pahrump. It's about 15-20 mins from Front Sight's location, right on the main drag in Pahrump. Nothing fancy, but the rooms were clean, reasonably priced, beds comfortable, and the staff very Front Sight friendly. Has a buffet style or order off the menu restaraunt, small casino, gift shop. Restaurant will take your box lunch orders the night before your training class and hand it to you on your way out to Front Sight in the morning. It's twelve bucks, and includes a good sized sandwich, chips, a cookie, and two soft drinks. It is very convenient, and tasty. There are no restaurants within driving distance of Front Sight given the hour off for lunch alotted. There are markets and sandwich places in Pahrump as an alternative. We were happy with the Saddle West and would recommend it to our friends. If you have any other questions about the Front Sight experience, don't hesitate to ask!

+1 on the Saddle West. Discount for Front Sight members also, breakfast buffet included. If you book into a double room with a friend your cost averages like $25 per night. You've also got to remember that the pass over the mountain gets closed periodically due to icing.
I don't stay in Vegas anymore when training at FS, but if you're planning on partying at night, and willing to punish yourself with the lack of sleep then Vegas it is. During Shot Show Stratosphere had really nice renovated rooms for like $28.

We stayed @ The one in Vegas once, and while it is nicer, we found that losing the hour of extra drive time really sucked. You will find that by the end of the day, the last thing you want to be doing is sitting in a car. Shower, food, some dry practice, and sleep.

They had us sign a thing that promised not to dry practice in our hotel room unless we had a 'red/blue/orange gun'
Apparently there's been a few issues with that.

I stayed at Excalibur for another convention, then silverton for 2 nights, silverton was better than Excalibur but really only 10 minutes closer, I actually found the hour drive in the morning to be my time for actually drinking my cup if coffee. So that didn't bother me, first morning was 630 but the rest were 8 then done at 5, there was no night shoot in the 4 day def handgun any more.
I preferred taking my own lunch, stopped and got lunch stuff at Safeway or target or something, the lunch really wasn't worth 12$ to me, only convenient, but buying stuff and filling an icechest to make at lunch was good for me
Be sure and have about 700 rounds of whatever ammo you are using or be prepared to pay 25 per box/50.
Bass pro inside silverton by the way
But then theres wallyworld near saddle west I think
            Good luck

I would classify the saddles west as 'tired' but I'm only in the room to shower and sleep.
also they raised box lunches to $10, I used beach hut deli (they deliver to frontsight). Super tasty and only $13

I'm planning a trip out in May, and my research has shown that people seem happiest with the Best Western and the Pahrump Nugget (which I think is the newest in town). Apparently Saddle West used to be a little unfriendly to Front-Sighters, but they seem to have changed their policies (probably since all the business was ending up elsewhere).

Personally, I'm leaning toward the Best Western at the moment.

I've stayed at the Saddle West twice. Nice buffet breakfast included in the room price, discount for FS students too.
Hotel is nothing fancy but more than adequate.
You'll be pretty tired at the end of each day, room won't matter much.

                      Hi Glock Girl,

I havent done the shoot there, however I have a customer in town and often drive there; I recommend staying in Las Vegas. Siverton is good enough, so is South Coast a little further on. Much better places and not much of a drive.

                      Keep your powder dry,

                      Max

I used to stay at the Best Western. It was clean and quiet. I've never stayed at the Saddlewest, but it's cheaper and popular with the FS students.

Recently I've been staying in Vegas. Sure, the drive is twice as long, but comped rooms help offset the extra fuel cost. I've stayed at Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood for almost nothing. This month, I'll have a comped 5-night stay at the Rio.

                        Just something to consider.

We also take an ice chest with snacks, lunch, and drinks. They have a microwave if you want to heat something up. No matter where you stay, it really is nice to have your own food there.

We stayed at southpoint, southernmost casino on the strip... Good place!

Can I add... I didnt have the best time at frontsight and wished for my week of vacation back... Try local training ...

... For those of you that disagree with me that's fine, just remember you weren't there when I was. I'm not bashing just sharing - in the ladies forum.
