My family thinks that it is unattractive for me to start getting into guns, I asked was it because I am a woman and the room got quiet, I started to say F you, but I just walked away

If for SD/HD, would they find you more attractive to be harmed?
Congrats on the F bomb control, that could have convinced them the wrong way.
Do what is right for you, take any needed training, etc.
Plenty of info and advice here, take much of it with a grain or two of salt.
Check out more on the Ladies Forum posts re: renting what you might like, selecting guns....
Good luck and let us know what happens.Originally posted by Kestryll:

welcome!
introduce them to this woman: http://www.corneredcat.com/
and if push comes to shove quote the signature below my kitty cat signature!"The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

Firearms aren't for everyone, your family may just be voicing their concern for your safety in this endeavor in a less than functional way. Make certain that you start this new journey with a reputable instructor who makes gun safety the #1 focus. Feel free to PM me with any questions that you might be having, I'm in the SFV as well and can provide info on resources in the area.Comment

Here is a cloud with a silver lining set gently in your lap!
Go for it!!
Find your gun, train and develop the proficiency with it. When your family sees that it didn't transform you into a "gun-toting, meat-eating monster", you will very likely have the opportunity to introduce those of your family to the world of sport/target/self defense shooting as well..
Best of luck to you.Tire kickers gonna kick,
Nose pickers gonna pick

.. just a guy here..
I think it's damn responsible for a Girl to know how to handle a gun safely.
I'f they still want to make a stink.. remind them you know of a gun guy that bakes his sourdough and learning machine sewing.
Show them your new crossbow!
After watching WTC Bldg #7 being razed, and considering it's main occupants..
I stumbled onto this note while checking advanced weapons..
"911 = false flag. WTC 7 was brought down by demolition. 47 floors came down in 6 1/2 seconds - not hit by a plane. Just one of hundreds of absurdities that occurred that day. Wake up".Comment

I just didn't like the fact how my family said it is unattractive for a female, like you have to be masculine to shoot, I see plenty of men (on this site) in the army or men who work away from home who wants their wife to shoot... I expected the men to support me but they were just as badComment

Not sure if you need anyone's approval to enjoy a popular hobby.
If it matters, I like you.

I am a strong supporter of female shooters. My wife is a shooter, has her own rifles as well as my 8 and 11 year old. It seems as though it is going to be a delicate subject in your home and you may have to approach it from a different angle. Maybe they are in fear that you will be better than them, who knows? Maybe find a lesser common ground and work up from there! Good luck and I hope you can win them over!

Since you are in North Hollywood you should check out the Calguns Monthly Shoot the last Friday of the month at the Burbank Firing Line. There are always lots of great people with lots of cool guns there and everyone is more than willing to let you try their stuff out. Great Costco pizza too! LOL!

Good for you, Divine -- I agree with the others who said that keeping your cool & not dropping the F Bomb makes you more credible. It's sad that there are so many stereotypes associated with the shooting sports.
You're not alone with your family; one of my older sisters sticks her nose up at me for being a gun owner. She totally freaked when I invited my brother-in-law (her husband) to the range. It was sad because I could see that he wanted to go, but she nixed it in the bud. (Talking about being whipped!)
Anyway, to each his/her own... the main thing is to be safe & have fun!sigpic
