Understood. I am keeping my old license that is good until 6/2020 so I don't have problems.

I asked my DOJ Field Rep about whether or not I could accept a "Federal Limits Apply" CDL + a US Passport. As someone mentioned, the CDL establishes residency and the passport establishes legal status. She said no. "The California PC states that a person is required to have a valid California DL, or a Valid California Identification Card." "There are no other allowances for identification."

That statement implies an AB60 CDL isn't a valid CDL. I suspect that while her language maybe wasn't precise, the DOJ policy she was articulating is clear. Right or wrong, I'm not going to accept them unless I hear otherwise from DOJ. Its irritating but its not worth the risk.

Remember that a paper drivers license is not acceptable for firearms, but it is acceptable for driving.

I think that you are confusing a drivers license vs. an acceptable CA ID (whether it be an ID or a DL) for firearms purchases.

Yes, I have been told no as well by CA DOJ, so there really isn't any choice since it is impossible to claim ignorance on the subject when the inspector remembers the discussion.

Kemasa is correct I had more conversations today with clueless buddies. They have no passport and had no idea the wrong license will not let them fly to hunt with me in November. They were going to get some 22 rifles for the kids for birthdays.

I am totally pissed today at my local Daly City DMV office, if your current drive license is expiring in this year, and u have made an appointment with DMV more than 60 days before your DL expiration date, you need to know this:

              1. If DMV employee ask you to retake the written test because you are renewing the ID more than 60 days of the expiration date, you SHALL check " Replace" instead of "renew", so you just pay $28 to replace your existing ID with Real ID, then pay another $35 to renew it later. Unless you want to take the written test again.

              2. Do remember to take a new photo for your RealID. The employee processed my paperwork forgot to take my photo. luckily my friend asked and reminded me that I did need a new photo for RealID, so I went back again to the same guy, and asked him if I needed a new photo, and he said he forgot to do this. ( WTF, did i meet an intern??)

So, did we learn anything new outside of what we already know?

Does the same apply for #1 if my DL expires in 2019? I'm assuming yes, that I'm going to be requesting a replacement instead of renewal..

Yes, it should be same. mine is expiring in this Aug 2018, if I check "renew" I need to retake the test, so I need to pay another RealID renewal fee later to renew my RealID. I will keep it updated once I receive my ID.

A quick question, the DMV employee has punch a small hole on my current ID card and he also gave me a temporary Drive License paper. Does it mean I can not purchase any firearm until I receive the new ID?

Correct, no firearms for you for now. Paper licenses are not acceptable, a punched license is not valid.

Just get a Real ID CA Identification card. Good for 6 years, no test and keep your drivers license as is and renew it when it expires as a simple non-real ID license.

so you could keep both RealID idenfification card and Non-RealID drive license at the same time? i thought u could only have one or the other.

Yes you can have both. You just can't have both as RealID according to DMV.
