Nope, haven't seen it, haven't heard of it. Might be good, I don't know.
Hollywood has a way of bastardizing the biblical truth though.
For example, as good as the movie 10 Commandments was, it's not biblically accurate. For instance, Aaron was supposed to be the spokesperson for Moses when they go to the Pharaoh, but Moses goes alone in the movie. It is Aaron's staff that turns into a snake and swallows the magician's snake, but Aaron is missing. -
Aside from the classics (Ben Hur, Ten Commandments), it is the best faith based show ever produced. And the best presentation of Jesus you will ever get. Production values are great, as is the writing and acting.

Rejoice! "The Chosen" is not a 'Hollywood' project. Independently produced and the first season was 100% donor funded (KickStart). Following the end of the last episode of each season ALL of the donors names are run after the production the 'credits' (as wide as the screen, the list scrolled down for many minutes).Hollywood has a way of bastardizing the biblical truth though.
You can pay to watch it, or you can watch it for free because of the studio's "Pay It Forward" option, whereby your donation will allow others to watch it for free. Kind of a contemporary take on Mark 16:15 "And he said to them, 'Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.'"
Watch a few trailers after this one (they are at the right side of the screen)

Just started watching Season one with my elderly mom who suffers from dementia. She and I love it! It humanizes the apostles and makes them relatable. They way Mary Magdelene is portrayed was believable as a women who suffered from sexual and psychological abuse. An outcast who Jesus saves her when she is trying to end her life.
I liked Erick Avari's portrayal of Nicodemus too.
Amazing series so far and from what my brothers who watched it; they are loving it too. Highly recommend!Comment

If you have Roku, you can install Angel studios and it has the Chosen for free as well as a few other nice things for the kids."Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. I can?t back the show. Dallas Jenkins (creator of The Chosen) is a wishy-washy person who doesn?t seem to know the definition of what a true Christian actually is. Here?s some excerpts from Jordan Riley?s podcast of the concerns with the series?..
1. Dallas Jenkins owns 44% of The Chosen. The other 56% is owned by the Mormons.
2. Dallas Jenkins goes on podcasts and defends the LDS religion regularly.
3. Season 2-3 was shot on an exclusive LDS-only film stage/set in Utah.
4. VidAngel who distributes the series is owned exclusively by Mormons.
Christian Pastors Voddie Bauchman and John MacArthur can?t back the series either, due to too many biblical errors with the show’s portrayal of the character playing Jesus, who says things that Jesus would never have said, because they are actual contradictions within the Bible. That?s a huge issue for me personally.

Watch it for the entertainment because it is well done . . . not Biblical Accuracy. Too much LDS influence. If you want accuracy . . . read the Bible Straight Up!
Don't get offended, just my 2 cents worth.

If one cannot objectively and specifically call out the biblical errors, then the criticism is worthless. The above reasoning constitutes non sequiturs. They are neither logical nor biblical reasons for not watching the show.
Too many object to the show based on their denomination's theology, and not the scriptures.
They took creative license with plausible back storys, which isn't unbiblical. It is non-biblical, which is a separate category.

So you went there with “non sequiturs,” by presenting a false dilemma. Nice, so I guess I’ll bring it… On the show when Jesus teaches Nicodemus at night... Jesus tells Nicodemus that He has come to this world to save man from the punishment of sin. On the show, Nicodemus questions Jesus and asks Him, ?is the Kingdom of God really coming?? The tv show depicts Jesus replying with “what does your heart tell you?” (…and then a pause). If one cannot objectively and specifically call out the biblical errors, then the criticism is worthless. The show throws it back on sinful man, to follow and listen to his own sinful ?heart!? Jesus wouldn?t do that, nor does Jesus say anything remotely resembling this fact to Nicodemus in John chapter 3. In fact, Jesus preached to rely on He Himself and NOT one?s own sinful and broken ?self,? because man is incapable of doing such because we are all born with ?black hearts.? (John 15:5. 2 Corinthians 3:5).
We are called to trust in The Lord with all of our heart and to not lean on our own understanding. (The tv show promoted self-reliance with that scene, completely contradicting core Christian belief). In all of our ways we are to acknowledge The Lord for setting our paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6). We cannot be self reliant with our hearts, in order to find ourselves in the kingdom of The Lord.
The tv show has several of these little nuances and slightly shaded different meanings to the actual text of the Bible. …and this is wrong.
Again, look at who the majority stake holder is with the tv show. If one contradicts essential Christian doctrine, then one not only blurs but obliterates the line of demarcation between the Kingdom of Christ and the kingdom of a false gospel.Last edited by TrailerparkTrash; 03-30-2023, 11:01 AM.sigpic

If you are dead in your trespasses and sins, how can you believe with all your heart? With that black heart, as you might say? It can't be trusted, in your view.
The embellishment portrays a Jesus that already knows that Nicodemus is on the cusp of conversion.

Well, what does the Bible say in response to what you?re saying? I listed 3 or 4 verses where we are told to TRUST JESUS with all our hearts. We are NOT to rely on our hearts in ourselves. Big difference. Look up the verses from the Bible that I cited. If you are dead in your trespasses and sins, how can you believe with all your heart? With that black heart, as you might say? It can't be trusted, in your view.

Ultimately, here?s the bottom line issue with The Chosen TV show: The great concern is for those who profess faith, but are being led away from scripture, because it is more convenient and palpable to watch a fictional based representation of Jesus being portrayed on an entertainment desired TV show.
You just proved my point with your last comment that while you profess faith and I have no doubt you are a Christian, however you?re allowing a fictional TV show portray what Jesus supposedly said with some big inaccuracies and false assumptions, contrary to what the Bible says. With all due respect, it?s more convenient for you as others, to just accept a pleasing to the ear (and eyes) feel-good man-made TV show, than to actually read, verify and understand what the Bible says that Jesus actually did during that time period.
I?m not telling anybody to not watch the show. That?s a personal decision everyone must make for themselves. Rather I?m just saying that one might want to follow along with a genuine Bible in hand and have the proper discernment skills to see false (or proper) biblical teaching from that series.
Also, look at who?s providing the majority of the the so called ?biblical message? in the story line of The Chosen. It?s 56% of the Mormon church who has the ultimate say in the script line whether you like it or not. That?s enough for me to say, ?no thank you,? I?ll pass. I?ll stick with the Bible itself to read what Jesus said and did.
I have no beef with Mormons personally. But I vigorously defend Christianity from Mormonism. But know that Mormonism and orthodox Christianity are NOT even close to being one in the same religion. I say to all other religions, ?you do you Boo.? Just don?t classify your religion with Christianity and likewise, I won?t classify my religion (Christianity) with yours.sigpic
