I am also in agreement with the God in Genesis is the same God in John1 and the rest of the Bible too. What I am not in agreement is the Triune God that you believe. Sorry, no disrespect. I just don't believe in that. I know I'm not in the majority on this one but I don't mind going against the grain when it comes to certain things.John 1:1 is the explanation of Genesis 1:1.
Genesis 1:1
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The God of Genesis 1 is also the God of John 1. That is the point of my original post.
To finish the point of the Trinity, "and the Spirit of God was hovering(brooding) over the surface of the deep. There is the Holy Spirit.
Thus, when God says, "let us make man in our image" the "us" is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Triune God.Comment

I'm curious how you would make sense of passages like the following, or if they just don't make sense:
Luk 3:21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened.
Luk 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."
I'm not trying to argue, just very curious as to how you would view that kind of passage, for my own understanding. Oneness Pentecostal shall I assume, or just independently convinced?Last edited by Dezrat; 08-20-2015, 7:49 PM.Comment

I also am not being argumentative, but just expressing my point. I see the idea of the Trinity in scripture. Just off the top of my head would be small implications such as the names Elohim and Adonai being plural; in reading a variety of passages like Ephesians 4:6 calling the Father God, while Colossians 1:14-17 refers to the Son as God, and Acts 5:3-4 includes the Holy Spirit as God; and passages like 2 Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 3:16-17 or 28:19 that refer to the three collectively:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,’”Comment

eb47. First I apologize. I'm on my phone so I can't quote. No offense taken. I understand that you are not orthodox. You don't need to apologize for your stance. The thing is, I didn't start this thread as a Gospel outreach. It was merely going to be an edification piece for my brethren. It appears to have become the former. That is always OK in my book. Continue to state your case. I will continue to answer in as respectful way as I can.Psalm 103

No problem. I am merely saying that I've read about the Son of God but not God the Son. I think of one Diety fulfilling 3 different offices not 3 Different persons fulfilling 3 different offices then coming together to make One God.eb47. First I apologize. This is a pretty good debate between a Trinity person and a Oneness person. Both seem to make good points. It's 2hrs long but we'll worth it. Enjoy!

How many people in scripture were baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost?I also am not being argumentative, but just expressing my point. if you consider yourself a member of a cult by heritage, you will have a hard time believing Jesus is Lord.
The fact that you (by heritage) would believe in the worship Lucifers brother, should bring an awakening to your soul.
Well, you know, J Smith declared that there were serious flaws in the modern translations of the Bible. Only he truly understood what was and wasn't Biblical because he had regular revelations from God. How do you argue with that? It kills all discussion, sort of like when a Scripture believer quotes Scripture at a non-Scripture believer in the middle of a debate.
I confess I am not at all familiar with henotheism as or not as a Mormon.
I consider myself Mormon by Heritage, not by Belief or Practice.Last edited by colossians323; 08-20-2015, 10:01 PM.LIVE FREE OR DIE!

Actually this has been proven false time and time again. Are you a zeitgiest follower?Far as I can tell all Christian doctrine is taken from pre-christian religions. All ancient religions borrowed from the ones that came before.
There are many hits on Google. Here's just one.

Exactly, or simply using the pluralism of "one" God in hebrew...............Elohim, or the Hebrew Shema................Oh hear oh Israel, the LORD your God is One!I've always described Logos as Divine Manifestation.
On the triune nature of God..
The Trinity goes all the way back to Genesis 1:26-27
I pointed this out to a JW using their own bible and left them soul searching.
Billions of people have no problem with the Bible being inerrant or infallible, as a matter of fact this isn't even argued in Christian circles.
John 8:56-58
And their reaction in verse 59 says it all, by saying I AM Jesus made the Exodus 3 declaration and the Jewish leaders knew this.
Why are the words put in this fashion, or the way the Jews practice the passover with all the rituals that point to Yeshua Hamashiach
Sad that so many lack the ability to study, especially with all the resources available to us today. There is a reason that Jesus chose the Jew of Jews to convey the witness to the gentiles and jews alike. Who better to share the gospel than one who really understood the Pentateuch?LIVE FREE OR DIE!

In reality, it doesn't matter what word is substituted there for the Word, that same word would point to Jesus regardless. Verse 14, and the Word came down to swell among men in the fleshJohn 1:1 is the explanation of Genesis 1:1.

I don't see what this has to do with the idea of the Trinity, but to answer your question: Christ commanded this after He was resurrected. If I recall correctly the first recorded baptism after that would be in Acts 2. So if I were to believe that the disciples followed Christ's commands, obeyed His word, and taught what He taught ("teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you" - Matthew 28:20), then I would suggest all the people who are recorded as being baptized after this command were done so in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.Last edited by WASR10; 08-20-2015, 10:22 PM.Comment
