Money is the Federal Reserves, says so right on it. Just borrowing it short term.

    God created everything even government.

"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"

Ok about 30% old Caesar man and God gets me, lock stock and barrel.

    I think I'm over tithing?

When you add in property taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, smoke taxes, taxes taxes fees fees fees it's got to be waaaay over 50%, now I think we got screwed by old Caesar. It's comforting to know that God only requires us to believe.

sixoclockhold: "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"

Sadly, many take that passage and for their own purposes try to say it means "Pay your taxes, but then of coarse you still need to pay your 'required 10%' to God". It sounds like you may have been victimized that way.

The preceding verses I believe explain what he was saying:
Mat 22:19 Show Me the tax money." So they brought Him a denarius.
Mat 22:20 And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?"

Why did he focus on the image, and draw their attention to it? It was an opportunity for a type of Parable, if you will. The money was created with the image of Caesar on it. And what was created with God's image on it? You and I.
Thus: "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"
God only asked the Israelites for a tenth of their harvest, but he asked for a seventh of their time. He hasn't changed. He seeks you, not money. I think you've got it figured right if I read your tongue in cheek right....

        Pay Caesar his due.

I get it, just like the stuff you like and push aside the rest.

I much rather hand a homeless dude $20 bucks than pay the electricity on one of these mansions.

        God see's you.......

If you are attending a congregation in which you do not trust the people you are giving to, perhaps its time to find another congregation.

Why is it, that some insist that there was one "Law" given at Sinai, when the OT repeatedly speaks of, or differentiates between, the different "Laws"?
            Gen.26:5
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

            1Kings 2:3
And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

            1Ki. 3:14
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

            1Ki. 6:12
Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
            PS.89:31
            If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;

            Neh.9:41
And madest known unto them thy holy Sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:

            Is.24:5
The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

Here. we have part of the Law referred to as a "statute".
            Lev.16:34
And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.
            To quote just a few.

Here, part of the Law called an "ordinance".
            Num. 10:8
And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.

Is that what Paul is really saying, that there is only one "Law"? Or, he is limited by the Greek he is using, and didn't have words comparable to the Aramaic/Hebrew of the OT? Because it sure seems that the OT writers made a distinction between the different types of laws given at Sinai. Personally, I think that the part of the Law that was done away with was the part dealing with the sacrifices, since the Lamb had been slain, no further sacrifices were needed. What some call the "Ceremonial Law".

When Paul says we aren't "under the Law", exactly what part is he talking about. The whole Law? The Commandments? The Statutes? The Ordinances? Since he isn't specific, it's kind of hard to know.

If the Sabbath was truly done away with, since it is part of the Law, why does God say that all flesh will come to worship Him from Sabbath to Sabbath.

            Is,66:23
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

Remember too, the "Sabbath" is a proper noun, used for a specific day of the week. Usually used with a definate article "the". The Jews did not have names for the other days of the week, they were numbered. The only day was named, was the "Sabbath".
A "sabbath" is a general noun used for a the yearly feasts/festivals, because they had proper names already. Usually used with the indefinate article "a". If one capitalizes or uncapitalizes the word "Sabbath/sabbath" one changes the entire meaning of the verse. Something the original translators understood, and I am not sure many of the newer translations get. Unfortunately, I have seen Col. 2:16 with the word "Sabbath/sabbath" both capitalized and uncapitalized, depending on the translation. Which engenders nothing but confusion.

The Sabbath preexisted the Law. So, while it may have become part of the Law, it pre existed it, and I have difficult time believing that God did away with it, since it was created at Creation, and honors the Creator.
            Ex.16:23-29
And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a Sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, in it there shall be none.
See, for that the LORD hath given you the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

I believe every christian should be part of a local assembly and also support that assembly with finances and works. That being said there is nothing in the new convent about tithing, from the book of Acts thru the book of Revelations there is no command to tithe or give a specific amount, you will find a references to giving and scripture that tells us that those that teach the gospel should share in good things with him that is taught, also the scripture tell us that God wants us to be cheerful givers.

The thing I find interesting is that many churches constantly teach on tithing almost every Sunday for many but yet they are constantly raising money for one thing or another that they expect to be paid in addition to the tithe but when we look at Jesus and the Apostles they did not raise money. I think that many of the modern day churches are to caught up in money and it has become to much of a priority for them.

I think you've got a pretty good handle on the truth.
Tithing is not to be out of obligation, but out of love for God and furthering the Gospel

I believe those short and simple points get to the heart of the matter. (Corinthians 9:6-7)...I also would like to point to (Mark12:41-44)(2 Corinthians 8-9).These all speak to me in respect toward giving....

To me l Cor 9:6-7 goes with Galatians 6:6 and l Tim 5:17-18. These scriptures all tell us that it is the will of GOD that those that teach the gospel are to be supported by those they teach but these scriptures do not put us under bondage to a specific amount. As I said before there is a lot in the new covenant teaching about giving but nowhere do I see teaching on the tithe in the early new testament church. If you read from l Cor 9: 7-18 I think the scripture giving very well and if you look at vs 18 after Paul had made the case for him being able to receive from those he taught he said he would make gospel available without charge so he would not abuse his power in the gospel.

Paul's point in that section was that his not accepting anything from them was a proof of his genuine motives and calling, as opposed to the false teachers the Corinthians were paying to listen to and who were disparaging him(1Cor9:3&15). See also Acts 20:33,34.
Sadly, Paul's perceived proof of a pure, dedicated heart and calling has come to be viewed as the opposite. The "career professionals' are looked to as the ones that can be most trusted, and the Tent making(self supported) ones are looked down on generally as "wannabe's".
The section there in 2Cor(8,9) that many if not most look to to address giving had nothing to do with giving towards anything but a collection for the starving Saints in Jerusalem at the time. Giving none the less, I fully realize, but it's ironic that given the actual thrusts of the passages(1Cor9,2Cor8,9) including Paul's evidencing his genuine nature through them, they get used most often to compel giving to "ministries". Much too much they get used to get people to disobey the direct instruction: "Do not give out of compulsion".

I don't give enough. I don't believe in the ten percent rule, but believe all we have is from God. It's funny I see others in here talk about the feeling. Times I feel like ah, ok I'll give, but then expecting nothing in return (I don't believe giving a hundred dollars and you will come into much more money). But, you walk away with a good feeling about what you gave, and a smile on your face. I believe that's your gift in return, feeling you have pleased God.
