WASR10 already PM'ed me about this (clarification: about the answer to my question), but the post you referred to did not address what I was asking.

Actually, there was another thread that also discussed it much more directly (started, IIRC, by Barang). However, the point at hand was that many of the more recent contributors were not a part of that discussion and for the sake of keeping these other threads "neater", it may be beneficial to start another such thread and let current participants discuss this particular topic there.

      Regarding the 2nd Amendment:
"...to disarm the people ― that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason ("The Father of the Bill of Rights")

      Regarding Life and Death:
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28

The BIG question: "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" Matthew 27:22b

The tithe pre-dates Moses and the Law, continued under the Law and continues now under Grace. It is ALL His.

Tithing is important for many reasons: it shows obedience, honor, gratitude and trust. Focusing on trust for a moment, this is frequently an area of challenge for Christians, and certainly for me in my walk.

As to giving with the right heart, instead of continuing to wait till I had that heart, I started tithing and the heart quickly followed the feet.

Haha... missed this one! Thanks for the compliment, but I'm sure you know that only God is good (ref. Matthew 19:17), so I'm not good (apart from Christ's righteousness being imputed to my account by God).

And if by "dude" you mean I'm a tick on the hindquarter of a dog - well, that's closer to the truth. But if by "dude" you mean I'm some sort of an East-Coast-dandy-gentleman, I'm afraid I'm not one of those either.

"The tithe pre-dates Moses and the Law"

Always rattled when I hear that. One instance of Abraham giving over a tenth of some war booty to someone constitutes an Ordnance? But even if one condescends to that, Circumcision predates Moses and the Law. Should not then Teachers of the Tithe be having circumcision checks before they even think about scrutinizing any one about tithing?

Always shake my head when I hear other Pastors try to teach that. Utter desperation to perpetuate a deception, and shamelessly so.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

As a Christian I am free to give more than 10% if I want to. Yes, the church should be financed. If you are attending you're using the heater, the air conditioner, the lights, the sound, the building. These things aren't free and as a worshiper you should be financing these things. Also, as worship you should be offering/tithing your time as best you can as well. The church doesn't function in a vacuum. People make it work as guided by the Spirit.
Well said. I give a bit more myself. If you give with an open heart, and you can see the good it can do in people's lives, He will be happy. And in turn you will too.

"So that's my perspective on it. What say you?"

Is the preacher sporting a Rolex, new BMW and a $600k house?

No, he is good to go and got one over on you.

Why does God need money again?

God has cattle on a thousand hills. He doesn't need a 10th of his money back. If you think that your money is yours, well, you may be in for a lesson someday about how you live in a house of cards. Depending on man made things is idolatry.

Your discipline in giving a tenth of your first fruits is something you can gain, not something that the Lord requires. It is such a pleasure to see what the Lord does with tithes, it should not be a pain. At first it feels that way until you see the results, then you will understand that the tithe is a gift to you.
Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them from the hand of the wicked. Psalm 82:4
