Some agencies play the 'how bad do you want it' game. Don't be discouraged by getting turned down. Apply again, show any improvements from your first application. Make them see you really want the job bad. I was the same way when I applied, spotless background, no drugs/drinking, perfect credit. I was convinced they would think I was BSing them with never doing any drugs. My hiring process took 12 months. I jumped through all the hoops to show I wanted the job. Now after doing it for almost 7 years, I realized I should of been a firefighter! Everyone loves America's Heroes.

Yeah I will most likely apply again at that department. They asked that I not reapply for 1 year in the email. In your opinion would it be best to follow that or just keep applying every chance there is an opening?

Yeah man, Fire jobs are pure luxury lol.

I did my EMT clinical at a fire station and it was just like that.

But getting a fire job is hard as hell.

This is what I was trying to say, but you said it better.

And I think this advice is particularly apt if you're in you're early to mid 20s.

Lastly, timers on reapplication periods are common. Wait for that one year to lapse and do it again.

Non LEO here.

One of my cousins tried for a few years to get hired. He eventually got picked up and has been an officer for over 5 years. His sister tried just for the heck of it and she was hired the first time. It wasn't for her at all and she didn't last long.

A friend of mine started applying when he was about your age and was not picked up. He got a job a crappy job with the city and got to know all of the officers and much of the brass. I am not sure if that helped but he is now an officer.

I applied and was passed over by several agencies throughout my early 20's. When I finally did get a job offer, I got two within the same week and had to choose quickly one or the other. You have to tough it out and keep trying. Bear in mind that nowadays there are a lot of combat veterans coming out of the military and making the transition into LE. It makes sense that these folks are attractive candidates due to their experience and military bearing.

Very few people get into an agency on their first try. Took my 2 rejections before I got my first condition offer.

If I had to guess why you weren't selected here goes:

1. Other candidates had LE experience
2. Other candidates had 4 year AJ/CJ degrees
3. Prior Military Service (Generally speaking LE government jobs, including LE give preference to those with military service).
