Until I see LEO's armed with Javelin's and .50bmg machine guns and 20mm cannons, and hellfire missile's mounted on those armored vehicles, im not going to worry about it. Remember, there the ones who run in to the hail of bullets to save your rear end, why cant they do it as safely as possible?
You are absolutely right and your point of view is well appreciated. Just know that your point of view will be tarred and feathered in the OT threads. Lots of couch potatos and internet tacticians have determined that a revolver and a service cap are all that is needed for modern law enforcement.

I think those people feel they way they do because of the situation that we non LEO citizens find ourselves in California (10 rnd mag limmit, AW ban, etc). I Must admit it does suck to not have the same firearm laws as all of our boarding states (and hopefully will be changed in the future), but thats no reason in my view to take it out on LEO's, especially since its mostly safety gear and nonlethal weapons that there getting. People really make it seem like LEO's are getting Javelin's,hellfire missile's, tamohawk's, etc etc......

I'd hazard a guess that the people who question the equipment LE uses are the same jackasses who voted for Prop 47!!

LAPD trains their officers in the following manner.
They let anyone show up then they open up crates of M16s and hand them out, sometimes two at a time, then tell the class to point the end with the hole at civilians and yank on that trigger. The rest of the day they drink beer and BBQ.

ARE YOU PEOPLE OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MINDS?

Do you actually think that these "Military Type Equipment" equipment are just issued to officers with minimal to no training? Officers have to be trained on all equipment before they can use them in the field. That goes for everything from general equipment to less than lethal to ANY firearm. Hell I couldn't mount and use a light on my gun before getting trained.

Now as far as how LAPD trains their officers to use the patrol rifle the answer is going to be simple and short... It's not any of your business.

I will tell you this much... it's an intense, hands on 40 hour class that will result in you washing out if you can't cut it.

It baffles me that there are people out there that believe all this crap they read on the internet. They choose to side with a bunch of idiots with an agenda over trusting the men and women that put their lives on the line every time they go out there to protect and serve them.

Bottom line the response time of the pool ice is on the order of minutes.
The response time of a 357 magnum is 1500 feet per second.

              Police. Not pool ice.

Very true. And completely irrelevant to the topic. And the speed of the .357 will do you absolutely no good for 99% of the stuff people call the police for.

I don't know if this link will work, maybe you'll have to cut and paste, but the video it goes to answers the question better than I can.

Good video. Too bad the usual suspects will dismiss it outright and mock the fact that it says 'officers have the right to go home safe'

You and your family are caught up in an Active Shooter situation. First Responders show up and start to engage the suspect. Their plan is to lay down suppression fire and evacuate you behind one of their vehicles.

Do you want their suppression fire to come from sidearms or Military Suplus
                        M-4's?

Do you want them outfitted in Military Surplus Ballistic Vests and Helmets in case they catch a round and can continue to bring you and your family to safety?

Do you want them to bring you and your family behind a Crown Victoria or a Military Surplus vehicle designed to stop bullets?

I'm anxious to hear your answers.
NO! I want them to have brand-new kick-arse M4's! Not used military surplus old crap!

Ballistic vests tend to last forever, so that's okay, as long as they're not fragile ceramic plates.

And I much prefer they show up in a SWAT vehicle instead of a Crown Vic. Mainly because I would rather have SWAT officers show up for a gunfight than a patrol officer, no offense intended!

Don't need a select fire M4 most people can do more damage to intended targets in semi, and full rock-n-roll mode.

Most departments don't have the ability to have a full time SWAT team, so your probably getting patrol guys anyhow. Those regular patrol guys didn't do half bad in N. Hollywood, since it took SWAT a while to show up. OH yeah SWAT showed up in Crown Vic's then, and commandeered a Brinks truck for rescues.

The swat officers that I know are also excellent patrol officers. FWIW.

That is the default catch phrase thrown around as a punch line in all the CGOT police bashing threads. I'd be willing to bet every single one of those anonymous internet talking heads wants to make it home safe just as much as I do. And I also do not begrudge them having all the black rifles and tactical gear in the world, even if the only reason they have it is to impress girlfriends and bluster about a zombie outbreak or other such fantasy BS.
