CHP future pistol purchase?

CHP is currently replacing their 4013's with M&P 40 compacts. The 4006's are still several years out to be replaced.

Someone posted a story here about how Glock or Sig or someone presented a much better offer to CHP vs the Smiths and they declined. So I'm assuming someone is in bed with someone.

Or maybe someone just wants to support and value "Made in America" principles.

All Glocks are now made in America and have been for some time.
Interesting that all my old Glocks - 17,19,21,26 are ON the CA approved list. All newer ones - made in USA - are NOT.

CHP has never been on the cutting edge of things - just look at how long i does take them change and not always for the better - look at some of the previous cars they bought.

Ditto to 34Marine....love my 4006TSW. Little heavy, but rock solid and reliable. I'd happily use the 4006 till retirement.

LOL - I remember when CHP went to the 4006 - there were LOTS of guys who took it personal and there was no way they were going to give up them wheelguns.

I agree & disagree. My 4006 has been reliable, but there are PLENTY of reliable pistols out there that weigh LESS while carrying MORE ammo.

The fact that they are trying to cram more crap onto our belts every year means every ounce matters.

The Sig woulda been the All-Around better choice, but I don't think the decision was made based on the needs of the Officer.

Dusagree - if LEO took care of the equipment (I was an LEO armorer for 25 years) you might have a point BUT Glocks have BIG advantages - no fitted parts - all parts interchangeable even between some different models. Easy to shoot and hard to argue with reliability (lotsa cops don't like to clean their guns) as well as accuracy and they will shoot just about anything. Used to be everyone thought they were ugly. Amazing how the rest of the industry has come on the bandwagon.
BUT they still aren't making a real GLOCK.
Just because I was an armorer and own about 10 or so doesn't mean I am partial I still own lots of older S&S revolvers & semis .

I don't recall but it seems to me Smith was willing to do some custom mods with the gun that nobody else was willing to do.- mag disconnect, safeties, ???
That and like Remington - S&W will make you an offer you can't resist.
We needed to replace our OLD 870s. Smith came out with the 3000. Great guns (I have both). At that time 870 firing pin springs were failing big time and they had nasty double feed problems. The 3000 fixed all those. Remington didn't do anything until then - fixed the probs & came in and bought all our old 870s - Smith couldn't compete. I'm sure Rem made very little if any but they kept the business. Kinda like Smith used to do. That may happen with the 4006.

I do firearms purchasing for my small agency. I'm impressed by the prices offered on rifles by Sig. their pistol prices arent too great. Really, as a citizen buyer it miffs me a little that Sig can do such steep discounts on their rifles, they must not cost that much to produce.

It's an advertising thing - good ref for other depts. and they want all your business.

I was speaking in reference to the SIG vs S&W 4006. I would take a Glock over a 4006 (TSW) any day of the week also.

The "lowest bidder" syndrome plays a HUGE part in these decisions, as I'm sure our brothers & sisters in the military know all too well.

Funny part is, they managed to pay MORE and still got less. But that's Sacramento for you.

I'm sure Sig has them hammered out and continue to push out a superior product. The hard thing for me is we are the only agency in the state (and I believe the last state in the country) to use them. I think the department needs to step into the now and give us something with more mag capacity. But that decision is made way above my pay grade, and more likely by someone who does not carry it on a full time basis. I hope we see a new one in the near future, I also look forward to seeing what they are replacing the 4013 with.
