CHP 4006

The 4006 issued by CHP had three characteristics which made it distinctly different from the 4006 available to the public.

Those were:

1.) Bobbed hammer / no hammer spur (first round from holster draw DAO / to prevent intentional "cocking" of hammer)

2.) No checkering on front of trigger guard (no-snag re-holstering / easier on leather gear)

3.) Half-moon recess machined on front strap at magazine well (to aid in the "stripping " of a "stuck" magazine using the buttplate of another available magazine)

The above is correct with one additional feature; the recoil rod was stainless steel as opposed to the lighter aluminum alloy recoil rods in the commercial version.

State Parks used the same weapon and had the Bear etched on the slide, always thought the CHP winged wheel would have been nice on the CHP guns and make them collectibles. Some other differences internally were radius edges on some of the parts and a few other changes not found on the civilian models.

The 4006s from the '90s (without rail) were not marked "CHP." The guns from that generation were marked with two numbers - the serial number and the "control number," i.e. 'A1929.' The control number ensured parts control for each weapon (slide, frame, barrel). The newer 4006TSWs have a numbered CHP stamp on it.

FWIW, I never (to date) experienced any issues with either generation of the 4006. Of course, some did/do. If you polled a large agency (5-7k sworn), I would be surprised if you didn't hear similar stories - no matter the weapon system. Before I go, I will buy my TSW.

+1. Yup this is correct, no CHP on the 4006 and the A number isn't a badge number.

Also, if your CHP ID starts with an A, they issue you a stapler, not a pistol. Sounds like another agency numbered that 4006.

they never issued me a stapler, but got a crumby headset instead.

I'd always ask 10-37 right before making a carpool violation stop when my watch was close. The newby dispatchers would sometimes take a second, or "10-9?". I can't imagine being a CHP dispatcher. When I was working for the 'patrol, the dispatchers were usually simulcasting for two or more areas, and taking 911 calls. The city department I lateraled to had a minimum of two, usually three dispatchers at all times and the city was 1/20th the size of my CHP beat.

and on top of that they probably get paid more. I'm down in San Diego and it's getting ridiculous what the supes expect out of us. some take it personal. I just take it as hey I'll do what I can. I come of a little cocky at work and say my 50-75% is better than some peoples 100%. it's frustrating with some of the guys/gals in the field expecting you're their personal dispatcher and not realizing the other hundred of things we have to do. actually making moves to transfer to a smaller center that's actually in the same building as the area office. from what I hear the dynamics are better and you get more of a feel that you're actually on the same team. whereas in the big center a lot of the field units take dispatchers for granted.

Sorry to beat a dead horse but I thought everyone would like to see my CA State Parks 4006.

The original order was piggybacked with the CHP order- the pistols are exactly the same (including the missing trigger return spring that likes to fail). The only difference is the engraved bear on mine.

Here it is a few minutes after I picked it up from my FFL a few years ago. It cleaned up real nice.
