When I began, I used a kerosene lamp as my primary and I had a rag soaked in kerosene and tied to a stick I could light as my backup.

In all seriousness, you guys/women are fortunate that you have the choices you do and I think that is great. I had the SL-20 the second year it was out and stayed with that, keeping a charged battery pack in my bag and my old 5 C cell Kel lite with it. The car charger was also there.

The SL still works, tho I don't recall how many battery packs I've been thru over the years. Most of the black finish is off from removing shattered glass on windows at 459s, but I won't get rid of it.

This is where I have been getting a lot of my lights lately...He is LEO friendly and he is a First Responder (EMT or Paramedic). I had a problem once with a light once and he took care of it, where the Manufacturer failed to warranty it...I linked his Ebay site..

I just got the Streamlight Strion HL LED. Brighter than the original Strion LED.
I like a rechargeable light so I don't have to keep buying CR123 batteries.

I don't have the budget or need for anything like a Surefire.

I use Maglites and haven't had any problems with them.

Stream lights are really all I buy. I love them, but often forget to charge them

JetBeam PC10 is very compact for 550 lumens and would make a good EDC or backup.

I have a Pelican 7060 LED. I have been quite happy with it. It has two brightness modes (Low and High) and also has a momentary mode. The battery seems to last a long time as well. It has two switches; one towards the front and one on the rear. It is guaranteed for life. If it breaks, pelican will replace it. The material is very rugged and weather proof. Also, it is easy to grip even if your hands are wet. It comes with a charging cradle and mounting hardware.

Its about 9 inches long and weighs only 10 oz.

Maglites are so over rated now. For that price range, I'd get this:

http://terraluxportable.com./product/tlf-3002aa-or/ You can still find the gray color. Here's an excellent price from Optics Planet:

It such a good flashlight (and uses AA's) that I've purchased 15 of them in the past year, giving some away to friends and family and making sure I've got one in the gun safe, in my wife's and my nighstands, cars, garage, and other places. It's really a very impressive flashlight.

Maglite in the sap pocket and fenix tk11 on the duty belt.

The pelican 7060 does look nice. How long does it take to fully charge?
