LEO tattoo policies

Question for the LEO's out there, what are your tattoo policies? Is it like the military where it can't be seen in your service uniforms or is it a zero tolerance type thing?

LASD: no visible tattoos while on duty. Must be covered.

One of my old partners has to wear long sleeves, even in summer, to coverup his "USMC" tattoo on his forearm.

Long beach PD has a "grandfather" policy. Anyone hired after 2003 have to cover them up. Both of my arms are sleeved and I'm grandfathered in, however, I cover them up. It's just plain perfessional.

My agency does not allow visible tattoos while in uniform.

CHP is long sleeves also if on arms. Had to ask a chippy one 101 degree day why he was wearing long sleeves.

My department has a policy of no visible tattoos while on duty. There's a lot of departments out here in CO that don't care if tattoos are visible so long as they are not offensive.

My department has no tattoo policy and nothing states that any tattoo must be covered.

Depends on where you want to work. Many agencies here in California will want your tattoos covered. Definitely inquire if it means alot to you...

SJPD's came up with a tattoo policy about 4 years ago. Only 3 or so officers were grandfathered in, most of those had USMC type tattoos.

I want to go full sleeve on one arm, but I'll wait until I'm no longer working. For now my back and chest are blasted.

Our policy allows visible tattoos just as long as they are not "offensive" but what is considered offensive is not defined.

I have several visible tattoos and only wear short sleeves (even in the winter). The only time I cover them up is when I go to court.
