    * Nearly everyone will be the victim of a personal theft at least once, and 87 percent will be personal theft victims three or more times. Variety of Differences

Significant differences between blacks and whites and men and women appear in several areas. Blacks have a 53 percent chance of becoming the victims of a completed rape, robbery or assault, while the figure for whites is 41 percent. For robbery, blacks face a 51 percent victimization rate, while the rate for whites is 27 percent.

Men are more likely to be violently assaulted than women, the study found. Eighty-nine percent of 12-year-old boys can expect to become victims of violent crimes, as against 73 percent for girls. Nearly one in four men will be robbed, but only one out of five women.

If somebody claims I started a fist fight or I threatened them or tried to harm them, the audio recorder will reveal the truth. I once had an instance in middle school where somebody lied and claimed I threatened him and he was able to get two of his friends to support him, the principal even said, "you're one of the best students here and I do not believe you would threaten somebody, certainly not like that, but he has two people backing him up, I have no choice but to suspend you for two weeks." The only person who was willing to speak up on my behalf was a pot smoker who had a negative reputation with the school authorities, while the false accuser had two of his friends to back up his lie. I will NEVER be in that sort of situation again.

I always try to avoid escalation, "I don't want trouble, take it easy" but if somebody won't let me avoid the situation, the audio recorder will record the entire exchange leading up to the incident [whether it is a street fight- never been in one], or a self-defense shooting, whatever it may be.

It also works very well for recording things when you're out on a busy day and don't have time to write things down on a piece of paper.

Additionally, if somebody is giving me directions or talking to me while I am driving, all I have to do is speak/repeat what they are telling me and the recorder has it stored, so I don't have to take my hands off the wheel to juggle with pen and paper. When I am on the phone [with a head-set- never talk on the phone while driving without hands free] and somebody gives me a number that I can reach them out or they tell me their email address, I'm not taking my hands off the wheel to mess around with a pen or paper, I just speak the information, they think I'm simply repeating it back to them, and my recorder records what I was speaking so I can pull it off the recorder when I get home.

As an added bonus, if I hear a song that sound neat on the radio, I can play back the recording when I arrive home and look up the song based on the lyrics.

This is 2013, get used to the fact that everybody has a video/audio recorder in the form of a cell phone and many people go beyond that with dedicated recorders.

When you're in public you shouldn't be doing something you wouldn't want to be recorded.

Police run cameras everywhere, don't they? My county sheriff's office has a sign near their parking lot, "ONE NATION UNDER SURVEILLANCE" which I suppose is to warn potential thugs that if they decide to vandalize a squad car, it will be filmed and the film will be used in court.

Just so you know it takes about 30 seconds to delete old audio files on my recorder and change out the batteries with fresh ones from the charger.

At the end of every day, if nothing worthy of recording happened then I delete all of the files, swap out the batteries for fresh ones, charge the low batteries, and go to sleep, or I can do that when I get up in the morning, it only takes about 15 minutes to charge the batteries.

It is not time consuming by any measure.

The dash camera is digital and doesn't even require any work, it stores about 21 hours of memory and then it begins deleting/recording over the oldest stuff in the storage, so if something important happens I get it off the dash camera and then put the card back in the camera, otherwise I just drive along and everything is fine, the camera takes care of itself and it uses an adapter for power so there are no batteries to change.

I spend less than 30 seconds per day working with my digital audio recorder, not very much time considering how much it might help me some day.

Type in "dashcam" on Amazon and you will see 5 dozen options with hundreds and hundreds of reviews. Some of them are very very cheap, with good quality film even at night. They have become extremely popular in Russia, where insurance fraud is rampant. They work so well to deter fraud and lawsuits that people are starting to use them quite a bit here in the states. I hope to get one soon.....my job requires that I have a good driving record, so every little thing I can do to protect myself from liability is a plus. Including using a $35 dashcam.

I'm also going to rig up cameras to cover my entire back yard, the sidewalk approaching my house, the driveway, and the area near my shed.

I like to let one of my cats out [he used to be an outdoor/stray after he was abandoned- he has been neutered and is very friendly around people so we believe a few years ago somebody who was in foreclosure nearby dumped him] and when neighbor dogs start to bark I usually know it is time to bring the cat in because they can see him and they don't like him and he doesn't like them.

A few months ago, perhaps 4 months ago, I heard the usual dog barking so I stepped outside to get ready to bring my cat in... As it turns out, this was not the usual dog, chained in a yard, barking, this was a dog that was in my yard, had run my cat up a tree, and was viciously barking and scratching trying to get at him in the tree. I had foolishly left my pepper spray in my truck and the only item I had on my person to deal with a possible dog attack was my pistol in a shoulder rig, but I have no desire to shoot a dog that belongs to the guy/woman 4-5 doors down, unless I have no choice.

As soon as I stepped outside and closed the door behind me, the dog turned his attention from my cat in the tree and charged straight at me. I shouted something, I do not remember what, but I do remember exactly what I was thinking. I couldn't even begin to tell you what I screamed, I believe I was screaming for the owner to stop the dog.

The owner was running from the side and about 30-60 behind the dog the dog, screaming, "no, he won't hurt you!" or something, I really don't know, I heard somebody screaming, "No!" but I don't remember everything, I was in a sort of zone, focused entirely on the dog that was barreling straight down on me, I was just focused on that dog, those teeth, and the fact that it was getting closer and closer. I can barely tell you who said what, who was shouting, what exactly they were shouting, but I remember every little thing I was thinking. I was only vaguely aware that off to the side some middle aged white lady with long blonde hair was running and screaming and that she had what looked to be a beer bottle, in her hand. I could hear her, but I wasn't really processing anything she was shouting, it didn't register with me.

Looking back, it seems as though I had enough mental statements and thoughts to cover 10-20 seconds or even a minute, but all of the mental thoughts flashed through my mind in about two seconds and around the 2-3 second mark I found myself unsnapping the thumb break and beginning to draw.

            What was I thinking?

"Oh s*** I might have to shoot my neighbor's dog."

"Oh s*** that dog is going to bite me."

"Oh sh** that dog is going to maul me..."

            "He's coming straight at me..."

"He'll be on me in less than two seconds..."

"I don't have time to think about this..."

"If he comes onto my patio I have no choice."

"I wish I hadn't left my pepper spray in my truck, all I have is my gun."

"I'm going to wind up shooting this dog and then I still have to live next to these people."

"I've waited too long, he's going to maul me, I've screwed myself, I'm going to get bitten by this dog."

"I need to get my left arm between me and that dog, he'll sink his teeth into the left arm and then I'll shoot him."

All of those thoughts hit me in about 1-2 seconds, I thought about being attacked, I thought of being sued, I thought about being drawn up on charges for harming the animal.

I instantly drew a line in my head and told myself I'd have to shoot if the dog crossed that line while charging at me, although when I started to break open the thumb snap on my shoulder rig and I was beginning to remove my weapon the dog was already within six feet of me and was way too close, but fortunately the owner called to him and he immediately stopped and then turned around.

The point is, I had about a dozen things going through my mind all at once, the main theme was "I don't want to get attacked by this dog, which is going to be on me within three seconds, but I don't want to have to kill this dog."

I am very glad the dog aborted his charge on me but it got me thinking, "with everything going through my mind, having cameras in my backyard would mean there's one less thing to worry about, I won't have to worry about an angry neighbor screaming "he shot my dog and all it did was walk into his yard to greet him or to play, he was just mad that it peed on his yard last week" the camera would clearly show the dog was charging me."

The dog was around 60 pounds, +-5 lbs and I believe most police probably would have used some sort of force against a dog that was charging them, but I hesitated and if the dog had continued to charge I would have wound up with a mauled left arm [I was in the process of bringing my left arm up to block the dog while I began to draw with my right hand]. I had so many things going through my mind and as much as I didn't want to be attacked, I didn't want to kill my neighbor's dog, especially if it wound up being unncessary. I was ready to wait until the thing actually up and bit me before using force. So much was going on in my head and I didn't want to be the guy who unnecessarily shot a neighbor dog and then still has to go on living near the people after killing their dog.

The dog has gotten loose about 5-6 times since then, chased other dogs, charged people [never attacked them that I know of], and now I don't go outside, even in my own backyard, without pepper spray and the recorder running. Just about every time the owner is out chasing after him she has a bottle in her hand, I get the idea she's a drunk who cannot keep control of her dog.

That day the dog charged me, if I had the pepper spray on me, I would have used it without hesitation when the dog was within 10-15 feet, and if the owner wound up screaming at me I would have said, "your dog charged me, he'll be fine in an hour, keep your dog from charging people."

I think tactically I screwed up and let the dog get way too close, if the owner had not been able to call the dog off I would have been bitten, possibly mauled, at least on my left arm. From the perspective of how the incident ended, I was pleased with the conclusion because I did not want to be backed into a corner where the only way out was to shoot the dog.

With that in mind, I am about to toss down the money to get full digital video camera coverage for the front and back of my house. Aside from the fact that it will help in issues of burglary/theft.

Yep - I bought an Albanian SKS from him, Bryan, and sent a cashier's check to his house. Same address, and it's definately Ohio. Just a few weeks back now.

Being a hard core Pittsburgh fan I don't usually talk with people from Ohio - but c'mon... it's an ALBANIAN SKS! I had to have it! hahahahahaha

As soon as the woman approached your car your dad should have simply just driven away, and left her there talking to herself...

With all the pre-planning and thought which you seem to have taken and made, I'm surprised you just didn't simply realize the best action anytime one is confronted with a dangerous situation is

                Just leave.......
