    Tweekers and rocks

So I know this is a random question and I asked some of my partners and they didn't know the answer either. Why is it that every tweeker has in their possession random rocks, crystals, quartz or some variation thereof? It seems to me that every meth user I encounter has a rock in their pocket or in their car or in their home. Am I the only one who finds this strange? Ive asked users and have received no valid answer.

Reminds me of a time my buddies and I were out riding dirtbikes and some tweakers pulled up in a car and was asking where they could hunt for crystals. I was like how the hell should I know. So there is definitely a connection. lol

I've got rocks in my yard. But, as far as I know, I've never even seen meth.

On a serious note, the few tweekers and ex tweekers I've known don't fit into that category but, I could see most tweekers focusing on something a simple as a rock for long periods of time.

We had a local meth monster who would patrol the curbs with a flashlight looking for diamonds. He was asked, that was his answer.

I don't know if he found one once and decided that there must be a kimberlite pipe nearby or if he was just nuts.

          Strange side effect.

Since you seem to come into contact with them fairly frequently, why not just ask a few and see what they say? I personally have no idea.. but it does seem like a coincidence that crystal meth users would be carrying around.. crystals. Gunna go out on a limb and say it has something to do with that?

Ok I'll bite. Best answer I ever got was "these are diamonds that formed on the glass of the space shuttle during reentry". Keep in mind they were simply broken glass and rocks.

My former neighbor was LE and told me that tweakers always like to carry "shiny things" and take apart computers, VCRs, etc.

Not really helpful to answer your question I guess, but just an observation he told me. I think you shouldn't try to assign rational thought to something that drug addicts do.

Just to let you know - my brother-in-law is a meth addict, and over the years I have experienced all of the "classic" effects of meth use first hand with him. I remember the first time I noticed that something had changed with him (later learning that was about the time he first tired and became addicted to crystal). This is a drug that destroys your mind and makes you insane.

                    From wikipedia:

Psychological effects of methamphetamines can include euphoria, anxiety, increased libido, alertness, concentration, increased energy, increased self-esteem, self-confidence, sociability, irritability, aggressiveness, psychosomatic disorders, psychomotor agitation, dermatillomania(compulsive skin picking), hair pulling, delusions of grandiosity, hallucinations, excessive feelings of power and invincibility, repetitive and obsessive behaviors, paranoia, and – with chronic use and/or high doses – amphetamine psychosis.

The symptoms of stimulant psychosis vary slightly between different stimulant drugs, but are shared largely with the symptoms of organic psychosis, including hallucinations, delusions, thought disorder, and, in extreme cases, catatonia.

What I have always seemed to find in tweaker cars is tools, fuses, lots of Four Loko cans, and big bags of clothes in trash bags. We did a warrant on a dope house and some chick was sleeping in in a sleeping bag on the carpet right next to a big block Chevy engine.. WTF?????

Never really noticed rocks. Here, we have the hat trick of meth, porn, and darts(yes, the bar throwing type). Find any 2, you know you have the third somewhere.

Rocks are no different than the 13 usb/wall chargers you find in their backpack with 3 dead phones lying nearby. There's no rhyme to the reason, at least that I've found where I work. I think its more of a trend amongst them that just catches on and they roll with it until the next big thing comes along. I say this because when I started 8 years ago, I consistently found pencil shavings in pockets, backpacks, or at the bottom of a purse... shortly after that it was prono mags/videos - although i did get a reasonable (or so it seemed) explanation for that...

I haven't come across too many rocks, but if its one thing I've learned in this job its to always ASK. I always find a respectful way to ask many questions to feed my curiosity and pass it on to my trainees or fellow coworkers. Oh yeah, dont be afraid to take pictures either - of course ask though.

I've got a collection of interesting pictures I acquired over the years...

I haven't found a run of the mill tweaker with rocks in his pockets only the really crazy ones. Tweakers do seem to have a fondness for carrying around ladies underwear though.
