Well is it true that cops really like donuts??

I realize that is a loaded question but have always wondered

The cops and doughnuts things goes back to a time before 7-11s, WalMarts, Safeways, and other 24hr chain stores when small urban doughnut shops were usually the only thing open for the guys working graveyard shifts... their choices were limited to coffee and doughnuts, so that's what they ate.

There was a time when the doughnuts shop was the only place open at 0300. If you wanted some coffee and something to eat it was either like doughnuts or don't eat.

Cops like donuts as much as non-cops like donuts. I think traditionally, before 7-11 and other 24 hour convenience stores, donut shops were the only places open to get a bite and a cup at 3 or 4 AM. So naturally officers working the night shifts had limited choices.

But someone doesn't automatically like donuts more once they become a cop compared to the day before they became a cop. It's mostly a stereotype now.

I miss the old days with mom and pop donut shops, best place to ge a power ring around my parts now is at QT.....


I pretty much don't buy donuts in uniform, but I get off at 06 and pick one up with the kids on the way to school sometimes..... What can I say, power rings are delicious!!

As a kid growing up before the days of cell phones or even 911. While walking my little brother home from summer day care, he walked barefooted through some ivy and stepped on a broke bottle slicing up his foot pretty good. I ran 3 blocks down the street to the local Yum Yum donut shop where you could always find a La Habra cop. I think he was mad at me for ruining his donut break, but he did save the day and drove my brother & I to the hospital a mile away because the fire department's single ambulance was on another call. Yes, this was in the days before automatic or mutual aid.

I am at work eating a donut as I answer this waiting to go and solve the world's problems...I remember the donut shop in my old RD well. Every morning at 4am, the neighborhood smelled delicious and it was standing room only with Pasadena PD, CHP and LASD deputies. As well as Pasadena Water&Power workers, 2 cabbies and a few paper tossers. Best thing for that mid-watch pick me up! Hot, fresh, and the coffee was 10X better than 7-11 or AM/PM's...

That's because of the grease from the frying donuts is floating on top.

Our Graveyard shift used to take up a collection around X-mas to get a gift for out local donut shop owner. When you work with a female partner/trainee, you have to know which shops had the clean bathrooms
