Had a failure to feed in a REAL shooting. Responding to a nut busting caps with a 7mm Rem Mag. Thankfully I was not under fire, was at my trunk, let go of the charging handle and 1st round nosed down into the mag. Probably due to the old Colt mag, tossed it.

There's PMags, and then there's... "other."

And that's pretty much the breakdown of AR mags these days.

Mapgul PMAGs, although I have heard that 77gr can have feed issues due to the longer length.

Magpul has new PMAGS for european rifles. Any advantage over the older ones?

Ones that work and you have already shot and trust. I like the D&H 10 rounders and good ole USGI with Magpul anti-til followers. I installed Magpul anti-tilt followers in my issued mags when I went to Iraq. Never had an issue with mags feeding correctly due to tilt.

The problems I've had with the P-Mags are that they don't sit right in my Colt M4A1 and they are not compatible with our gun racks. Even with a hard tap on them they have fallen out when I go to take my rifle out of the car. I have the ones with the window in them. The rifle goes into the rack with the mag facing the rear of the patrol car. The slot that accommodates the magazine is not wide enough for the P-Mag's thicker bottom to fit in so their use makes my gun rack unusable.

GI Mags, i have heard several reports from several agencies that the feed lips on polymer mags may break and cause a catastrophic failure, but i have not seen the issue first hand.

G.I. mags were designed to be thrown away after they were empty originally.... I have a bunch of them, but I personally prefer magpuls. I have never, ever had an issue with any of my magpuls and I have a bunch of them, 20's and 30's. find whatever works in your weapon and stick with it.....I may be lucky as no matter what mag I have shoved in my Colt and/or my sig they have worked.....

                          "Best" AR Mags

Pmags have great followers...THAT is the key. I purchased 1,000 of the Brownells aluminum 30 rounders with the Pmag follower and chrome springs for our Department. You simply can't beat the price for what you get. Remember that AR magazines are listed as "consumables" by our military. Bottom line is a couple less starbucks a month equals more new mags for you! If you drink the Magpul Kool-Aid and want to buy the Pmags, go ahead... they are fine, I just don't think they are the "best". Best for which application...

If you are in a tactical situation where you are tossing the empty mags with no intent of going back for them, then yes, buying p-mags at $15 a pop is sort of silly, but I think most of us are NOT tossing them. With that being said, I don't think there is anything better. The P-mags don't get deformed lips, they don't get dented, they are easy to pop apart to clean, the followers in them feed perfectly flat, it's not steel on aluminum! Or aluminum on aluminum, which can start to wear at the rifles magwell. Call it "drinking the Magpul koolaid" I call it purchasing a superior product that just simply works better than anything else out there.

Use a mil-spec ar mag, and the switch to p-mags, and then tell me there is no difference.

Please show me verifiable proof that an aluminum OR steel mag body has ever caused an issue with the rifle's magwell.

Our PD also uses aluminum mags and Pmags (rarely) and as long as you have good followers you wont have an issue. You range commandos will never have an issue with dented feed lips.

I recently tried a 2 (20rd) P-mags . Very handy, reliable. Will be getting more.
