I just received a phone call from LASD background investigator unit. My file has been finally assigned to the investigator. I am meeting my BI next month. Finally,,,, I just hope everything works out fine.

I don't know if it's been mentioned here yet, but remember to ditch the dead hooker from your trunk BEFORE you meet with the BI.

How long does it take for applicant to find out if he or she passed the polygraph or not?

I took my polygraph on Dec.16th and I am still waiting for my result.

It's all in your head...the polygraph is the easiest thing you will do through your whole process...

If you didn't hear back, I think that's a good sign...if u failed, they will tell you within a few days that you can't continue on through the process

Don't sweat the waiting period. Other than the line at DMV, there is nothing that takes longer than getting hired by an LE agency.

Usually the polygraph is NOT a pass/fail issue. It is used as a tool for the background investigator. An example would be lets say you showed a "deception" regarding drug use. That would key the investigator to look into your background about any prior illegal drug use/possession. The results of the polygraph itself is not a reason to disqualify someone (usually). Its another tool in the tool box.

When i took my poly i was nervous as heck and the examiners first question was "when was the last time you masturbated?" There was like a 30 second awkward silence followed by examiner laughing at me. It was all good after that but that was one heck of an icebreaker.

I can't believe they still rely on the polygraph to determine a candidates character.

It's got to be an easy way to punt someone from the process based on some voodoo science.

When a question is asked, answer immediately, then go to the next ...dont dwell on the questions, cause the test only pics up when reactions to questions occur...youll do fine..good luck!

You actually probably wont hear anything back from it. It will probably just get filed and you will be scheduled to meet with your investigator or whatever next step in the process. It varies by department Im sure.
