ok so CHP is there to work with Caltrans while they work on the freeway.. well what really upsets me.. an prob millions of others is why must caltrans block a lane of freeway to sweep the side of the freeway at 2pm 3pm on a week day when traffic is heavy do that #$^@^* at night time.. like midnight .... an its a real plus when you finally do pass the CHP an there on the Cell phone or eating an no seat belt on.. ya go figure.

And if people didn't drive like morons we wouldn't have to close a lane to sweep the shoulder.

Interesting I never would have known that, but I usualy drive by at the speed limit or above with my eyes on the road. Next time ill slow down to 15 mph and try and look in the CHP car to see what they are eating or if the seatbelts on.

Emergency vehicles, which the CHP cars are, are exempt from the cell phone law.

If they are parked, why can't they use a cell phone? That goes for any vehicle. Or do you just have a jones for chippies?

As for the caltrans work, I hate it when they do it during morning rush hour!

I’m a retired truck driver and have spent many… (too many)… nights in “The Cone Zone” with hot asphalt in my trailer waiting my turn to pull up to the paver. I have witnessed many times, idiots (usually drunk) that perform the most irresponsible acts of stupidity that one could ever imagine!

I have also heard a lot of people talking s#*t about these “lazy cops sitting in their cars eating doughnuts”… these are… the first people to call the police when someone cuts them off, or points a gun at them, or tries to run them off the road, etc…

LEO’s in my opinion… deserve the same honor and respect as our service men & women…

Trust me… they are needed… even if you don’t understand why they are there!

CHP is also there because of the road rage directed at construction workers by motorists who are frustrated with the traffic caused by the construction.

It only requires that someone mover over (or slow down if they can't move over) in an "emergency situation". IE: lights are on and employee is getting something out of the lane.

If there are cones out, it is an established closure. No emergency exists and no need to move over or slow down. In an established closure the only lights that should be on are on the crash truck. Either with an arrow if the lane is ending or on 4 way caution mode. The other vehicles rotating lights are supposed to be off. We wouldn't mind it if you did move over but it's not legally required.

Once I was standing in a closure talking to a CHP officer and a drunk drove up to us. We were clued in by the noise he was making dragging our metal sign standard and sign under the front of his car.

I almost spit my drink on my screen when I read that. That is funny!

Which is all perfectly legal for LEOs to do, parked or not. By the way, the vast majority of the times that I used my cell phone at work was work related because the radios don't work everywhere they should.

Many times the traffic jam isn't caused by the road work, it's caused by the idiot drivers slowing down to see what the workers are doing.
