...park in construction zones with your lights rolling and just chill there? I've noticed this alot, but it never really occured to ask why you guys do this.

What do you mean by "...in a construction zone"? You need to be more specific. Are you talking on the freeway with CalTrans construction, city streets or what?

It could be many reasons, but with the little info you provided, it's hard to speculate and give you an opinion on what's "really goin on."

They park with their lights on so drunk drivers will target fixate and hit them, rather than the workers.

When there's construction on freeways and there's lanes blocked off. I always see cruisers with lights rolling.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It is not all Cops, just CHP in construction zones, working overtime for Cal Trans.

Probably comes from falling asleep while leaning on the shovel and the shovel handle penetrating the nasal cavity straight into the brain.

Not quite true....since 1924, 178 CalTrans employees have been killed on the highways while on the job, (average of 2 a year). Having said that, VERY few law enforcement agencies have had the same or more line of duty deaths in that time frame.

Actually there have been 1511 Law enforcement deaths in California. A cops job is a whole lot more dangerous than caltrans. San Diego PD alone has lost 4 officers this year.

Sitting in a parked patrol car means either report writing or eating. Unfortunately, people see you in the car and think "Why aren't you chasing bad guys?" as if police work is a 24 hour a day car chase/foot chase/shootout/....

A friend was a big time manager with Caltrans, he is the one that told more Caltrans workers were killed annually. Maybe he was wrong.

CHP and few otheer agencies do it for roadwork. SJPD is one of the ones I have seen doing it. It is mostly a traffic control thing. I know OSP does it with the few officers they still have left.
