Haha, who the heck wins a discussion? And what exactly is a "hater" on a message board, someone who doesn't agree with you?

I enjoy posting musings and thoughts in Calguns to get feedback and express my views! If you are on here to change peoples minds about anything, goodluck. Like most I wouldn't put too much credence in what people I have never met say! But I do like to take some of the advice, and opinions on here and due my own research on them.

I find that most of the "heated exchanges" take place in short periods of time and resort to personal off topic attacks when one opinion is not "winning"! Lol

I have gain a lot of insight into some topics that I have commented on in many of the threads. Usually hours or days after conversations were posted! Will I admit it on the thread, probably not. Why? Cause I don't want the other guy to WIN! Lol

This thread is a perfect example of the 'hate' and needless interjection by some who feel the need to express thier opinions in this sub-forum. My OP was directed to LEOs and yet there are numerous posts by non-LEOs, especially some who are historically anti-LEO or establishment.

I have made an honest and genuine offer to one of the biggest anti-LEO people on this entire board and have not received any reply from him (assuming it is a male) regarding my offer. Since that poster does not show a location in his profile I do not know if he is local enough to acccept the offer. I don't really expect a reply from him but I took the first step in an effort to help educate.

That same poster said he would "eat his words" if one could post a scenario where it would be justified to shoot an unarmed man in the back. I posted such a scenario, and there was no response from the individual, despite his having replied to numerous threads since that time.

There's enough LEO bashing on the various forums of Calguns that I, too, walk right by the Calguns booth at a gun show. I haven't carried out a statistical analysis to determine whether it's "prevalent", a "majority", or any specific amount.

It's simply widespread enough, and venomous enough, that I don't care to deal with it anymore... and I don't have to. I spent 30 years (10 in the military, 20 in LE) in public service and frankly, I'm tired. Tired of being a punching bag for folks like "Rhythm of Life", tired of being labeled a jack booted thug whenever there is some reported LEO misconduct. I enjoy the technical forums and spend too much time in the sale forum, but the rest of this site just doesn't interest me. Too bad.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

That describes a prototypical keyboard commando.

            ^^^^This is amazingly accurate.^^^^

I have spent my entire 33+ year career doing what is right for the good citizens. I'm beginning to lose patience with people like him but I will remain diligent in my duties to have the men and women on my shift provide the service the good citizens deserve. To me, making sure the good people are taken care of is first and foremost.

              Guys,

The basic concept that we have spent our careers fighting for what is right, helping those who can't help themselves, and solving problems rather than ignoring them is why we continue to confront wrong on this forum.

It's in our nature. We don't shy away, we confront wrong.

The "haters" have no clue what we really do, nor do they want to learn. Most have never had a personal contact with LE other than a traffic ticket. They'd rather take a third party "story" and embellish it to their liking.

Confronting wrong on duty is much different than confronting some loud mouth on a message board. On a message board I can discount the foolishness and avoid the entire confrontation. That is the whole jist of my OP.

Kind of agree with ernie. There is confronting wrong and just avoiding stupid. Granted, I get bored at times and just toss bones here and there.

Is there a lot of gun hater posting here on Calguns? I haven't seen much to speak of. In any event, what's accomplished by banning them from the forum? We spend a lot of time strongly derfending the Second Amendment. Don't we owe some respect for the First Amendment? Gun hater opinions may be worthless but their right to express their opinion is as precious as the rights afforded us by 2A. If you start banning posters from civil expression in the forum, it's no longer really a forum.

Key word being civil in the discussion.

Although you do not have many posts, you have been here since Nov., 2010 and I am surprised you haven't seen at least one of the posts that mentioned there is no First Amendment here. Since you obviously have not, I will explain how the First Amendment works on this site: it does not apply.

This is a privately owned forum and the owner has written the rules for it. The moderators endeavor to enforce those rules. Members who violate those rules either have their posts deleted, their threads closed or deleted or in some cases; they are banned either temporarily or permanently.

The leo forum is a specialty forum, as are some others on this site. As such, there are additional rules for this forum and they are located in the sticky near the top of this forum.
