    Why battle with the haters?

Read some of the thread in the Off Topic on the Downey shooting. Maybe I'm just a simpleton but why do people allow themselves to get engaged in a battle with the haters?

We all know who the normal suspects are. Why do we feel the need to engage them and be allowed to be brought down to that level? Anyone who has been on this board for more than 10 minutes knows the reality that no matter what is said you can never convince some people to have an unbias opinion of anything we do.

is it the thrill of the battle?

Dunno, I try and avoid that forum like the plague. Then again, I would like to see some of the haters banned from this forum as well.

I guess maybe I'm just to old school. I have no desire to argue with anyone with who I know is so bias that no matter what is said or what reasoning is interjected will still bemet with such staunch resistence. Not opposed to anyone having their opinions but I do believe that before someone's head is called for to be lopped off and placed on the silver platter.......oh, nevermind!

Part of it is just to engage in logical debate (even if the logic is unidirectional). Part of it is the hope that some of the more open minded members can see both sides of the argument and decide for themselves, even if they decide not to post.

I get what you're getting at though. I get tired of having to make the same points to the same people who basically follow the mantra that if you can't be right, be loud.

            ^This

For the most part I avoid it but sometimes it just gets under my skin.

Day to day actualizes your opinion, vocalizing presents.

I haven't bothered for a while. There's no point... or as Thomas Paine put it, "To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture."
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I guess your solution would be less action and more words.
