    Great LEO encounter

A Fresno County Sheriff rolled up on us at Tumey Hills today. We had tons of guns (a few AR-15, AK47, and tons of pistols).

He didn't ask what we where doing. He didn't inspect our guns. He didn't even get out of his car. He just bs-ed with us for a couple minutes. The he just reminded us to try to stay cool, wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.

The fact we were all holding guns while standing next to his patrol car didn't seem to bother him one bit.

He was a cool guy and went on his way.

All these recent postings of positive LEO encounters are a good!

Yeah, that would be Fresno/Kings/Tulare/Kern county, you live in the heart of the sane California.

I remember a Tulare Co SO coming out on a "someone shooting guns" call and he was SO apologetic when he saw the GIGANTIC oak tree backstop - he basically said he was there because dept. policy was to roll on every call - no needle d!ck "we don't have enough bodies - good on them!

What was even better was his asking to check out the 9.5" S&W Performance Center 44 Mag Hunter - that's a beast of a pistol, and he got a real kick out of it!

      Regards,
      Brian in CA

Many years ago I had a very similar experience when an El Dorado County deputy came out to were my friend and I were shooting. Said he had a call, and had to check it out. He said when he hears shots going on for a half hour or more, he doesn't worry about it. It's only when he hears one or two shots, then nothing, then he worries. He complained about the "city folk" moving up there from the Bay Area who don't know what life is like outside of a city, and complain about such things. Anyway he shot some guns with us for a while, then left on another call.

I'm guessing most if not all the LEO's on CalGuns would be like this! I truly love these kind of stories.

There is hope for this state yet. That police officer deserves a nice cold beer while off-duty and a whole room of applause of approval.

Agreed . Mostly you hear about the bad contacts as opposed to the good / great ones .

Yes. Believe it or not, many of "us" are not part of the conspiring, anti-gun goon squad. I'd guess that he watched you guys for a bit before making contact because just casually driving up to a group of armed people shooting and talking to them from inside your car is generally not a good idea. Either way it ended as it should have: law abiding citizens left alone to go about their legal business.

^^This. Sadly, we don't hear the good stories nearly often enough.

I had a very similar encounter with a dfg officer while shooting at Indian valley blm. He just asked if we were having fun and then called out Nagorb to see if his new 686 "shot as good as it looked."

Tell ya what the tone of that contact was very important. Anyone acting like a d*ick would have had a totally differant experiance. + 1 for treating a LEO like a human being.
