There is a reason that some people keep having negative experiences with LEO's and most of time, it's not because of the LEO. If you have a problem with almost every LEO you come in contact with, chances are the LEO is not the problem.

That depends on what era he is from. I know a few old dogs that would do this sort of thing with out ever knowing what they were doing.Yes. Believe it or not, many of "us" are not part of the conspiring, anti-gun goon squad. I'd guess that he watched you guys for a bit before making contact because just casually driving up to a group of armed people shooting and talking to them from inside your car is generally not a good idea. Either way it ended as it should have: law abiding citizens left alone to go about their legal business.
I would at least and get out to check out the guns they had. Not to be a jerk just to see if they had anything cool

Agreed. I am not a LEO.
I have never had a bad encounter with a LEO.
Granted, we have never met while they were in their "official capacity".
I have met many over the years, (CHP, Sheriff, Local PD, Ranger, Fish and Game)
Always at their ranches, while I worked on their horses.
We'd talk about horses, guns, cars, sports, women
Good, regular guys, all of them
I have no doubt, that if I did meet them while they were performing their duties
That the encounter would be fine
The reason being, I'd have no reason to disrespect them, or them to disrespect me.Comment

I guess saying Sir, is offensive to most LEO I encounter....The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.Comment

I've found that, when you treat others as you want to be treated, you generally get the same returned. The flip side of this is true as well. I've had LE roll up while shooting at blm land as well as ranges. It has always gone like this...
me..."hi. How are you today?"
LE..."good. You?"
me..."great. care to join us?"
LE..."sure." Or sometimes.."wish I could, but I have a call."
me..."great." Or..."that sucks. How do they expect you to have any fun?"
LE at that point chuckles and either joins us, or heads off to do their thing.
I've never been hassled by LE while out shooting. To be honest, I did get hassled by a 'beach city' motor officer once. However, justice came in court when the Judge summarily dismissed the charge (not wearing a seatbelt. I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt).Comment
