Mikel, I have a 17 rounder in the gun and a 3 mag holder on the belt. It takes up only a minuscule amount more of real estate than a 2 mag pouch. It's added insurance.

Duty: H&K USP in .45ACP with old school UTL and a S&W 640 in a pocket.

Off Duty:H&K P7M8 or the 640 depending on what I'm up to or what I'm wearing that day.

Thanks for the reply. Looking into a 3 mag open top belt holder...does Safariland make yours?

Yes, mine is a Safariland. I absolutely love it. It's actually served as a visual deterrent in a few instances when people size me up and they've commented on it. Although that wasn't the purpose, it's a bonus.

When you carry a 1911 do you have the hammer back or do you carry it with the hammer down?

Why would anyone carry a 1911 with the hammer down? If it is not cocked and locked, it might as well be a tomahawk in a gunfight because you are better throwing it at the dude downrange. It takes fine motor skills to cock the hammer, and in a stress situation, you won't remember to cock the hammer and wonder why the gun doesn't go "bang." PD's that authorize the 1911 carry it cocked and locked for that very reason.
