This is probably off topic, but are MTAs (Medical Technical Assistants) considered Correctional Officers? MTAs are LVNs or Psych Techs that perform nursing duties and some corrections duties if I remember correctly.

No more mta's as far as I know, they got rolled over to CO, and they were peace officer status, But the nurses and psych techs are not, they do no custody duties.

Not any more. MTA's were gotten rid of a few years back. The medical staff of today are not peace officers. Most are contracted from a outside agency. The medical is off the hook. We WASTE so much money on the most stupidist medical procedures. It is disscusting. It pays to commet a felony in this state.

Actually, MTA positions are still being offered at the CMF in vacaville and Salinas State Prison. And I actually have a friend that works as an MTA in vacaville.

The saddiest day happen the other day. A doctor actually signed off on an inmate to receive botox shoots in his A@&hole because it is shoot out. Yes, it is to warn out to clench shut. Go figure something like that would happen to an inmates butt while in prison. So every three month, we have to drive him to a doctors appointment to receive treatment. I have lost total respect for the system. This state is so out of wacke. Only if the tax payers knew about this.

Vacaville is a medical instition. They may have kept there mta's working. Does your friend wear a badge?

I believe they wear a badge. The last employment workshop that I attended, I noticed that their MTAs wore badges on the left side of their uniforms.

I heard CDC pay schedule for new emplyees is changing in 2013-2014. That's just what I've heard. Don't know if its true but it's something to consider.

With the state you can also transfer to other positions that are not open to the public to apply.

I'm going through the CDC academy right now. Things are always changing. We started with 207 cadets that were all hired as PIE's (permanent intermittent employees" but the previous academy all got hired as full time. In the past PIE's have been rolled over to FT in anywhere between a month to 12 months.

In regards to what red star republic said about transfering positions...there are SO many different directions you can take your career.

                          To OP,
27 years county CO, weaponless defense instructor, Cert team instructor, less lethal instructor, Taser instructor,JTO 3 times, many of my buddies went State. Good and Bad to both worlds. Had the pleasure of being put on the beach twice in my career, been injured many times in fights, been sued a few times, been spat on, been gassed with urine and feces, DA's office very rarely files charges on your behalf, etc.. any questions just PM me. You won't see very many folks make it all the way to retirement. It takes a very special person to do this job.

In cases like you state how do you keep the inmates inline and to follow orders if they wont receive new charges? I'm actually waiting for my exam date and this issue is a concern. Not scared but would like to know how to handle the situation. Do I just return the favor and pee on them in their sleep(joke)

                              To OP,

It's rewarding when you see the .001% that made it and they state to you that they made it on the "outs" because of something you said to them while using your verbal jujitsu. As Hogxtz said, it's what you make of it and you could be that special person for the job. Be the master of words, know when to draw the hard line and leave your work at the sallyport when your shift is up.

Didn't Jerry Brown want to close all private prisons and stick the level 1 and 2 inmates in county jail?

I graduate from the STC corrections academy on Monday.
