Think of the road James dean supposedly died on, nobody for miles, no cell, and you expect me to , 1 really be trying to get away , 2 , not a whole lot of safe stops there, you can get dumped over the shoulder and not found for a month, it would be a good idea to prove to me your a real CHP, I'd be hard pressed to stop on that road.

And please dont take this as mean, I've been through circumstances that you have absolutely no knowledge of. I have no Ill will towards leo, anyone that actually knows me knows that

It's amazing these days how few people are willing to take responsibility for their own actions.

Your problem is assuming that everybody pulled over has "broken the law". I was pulled over once "because my car matched a description..." however, it was not me, and I was promptly and politely let go. What crime was I guilty of? Those types of generalizations are the reason I keep an audio recorder in each of my vehicles. Meanwhile I'll be pulling over onto the shoulder as far to the right as I possibly can be, end of story.

I seem to remember something about being allowed to proceed to an off ramp and at night a well light area when being stopped as a result of the incident involving a Bad CHP officer who stopped a women at the I-15 and Mercy Rd exit back in the early 90s.

Quit because I don't like the actions of an idiot? I get paid to deal with idiots on a daily basis.

If you slow down and yield but keep proceeding to the exit, I wouldn't get mad. I'm very patient that way. But if you keep going and going and going... I just might be a tad ticked off and wonder what's up.

I've only ever worked in the metropolitan areas of LA, OC and the IE (where off-ramps abound), and therefore can not speak to the concerns of officers working in outlying areas.

In my first ten years on the job, I was hit four times while stopped on the freeway shoulder (one auto vs. pedestrian, one sideswipe and two rear-enders).

Not one of those occurrences was during the course of a traffic stop.

That's because every driver I attempt to stop is systematically instructed over the public address loud speaker to exit at the next off-ramp.

Hasn't failed me in fifteen years.

And not once in my career have I even heard of an officer arresting or citing a driver for not pulling over "right away", or not stopping "in the right place".

                YMMV
