I run 15% window tint up front and honestly I dont care about that specific law because the benefits greatly outweigh the possible fix-it ticket I get from it. The prices for this violation have gone up dramatically I heard, to something like $200 + removal of tint = total of like $300 when you're all set and done.

I have been a little more paranoid as of late so I pull my windows down if i saw LEO's but its worth it. Ive been an avid cyclist for a very long time and I think that I will probably have skin cancer issues at my rate so I want to minimize it as much as possible. Driving on the 405 south to work is alot of time with your arms and face exposed to the sun. To me its just not worth it.

Also it helps with sunlight and I can keep my windows up and the AC off to save on gas.

I think the law is BS...it should be like other hot as hell states and have no law for front window tint...

EDIT: Oh I got a fix-it ticket for this about a year and a half ago...was a BS ticket and would of never gotten it if some ahole didnt steal my license plates. I filed a police report and got everything squared away, next day on my way to work i get pulled over for no license plate. Once I showed the LEO that my plates were stolen and showed him my police report, I guess he felt like the stop was a waste so he gave me a fix-it ticket for the tint...meh roll with the punches

Well... It is the job of law enforcement. I am a firm believer of giving verbals at times, but tint would happen to be a pet peeve, especially people who have multiple citations for tint. Even better, would be those who FTA on tint tickets. I was on a stop the other night in front of a certain PD station in the Los Angeles Area and I got a good laugh at the amount of off duty officers leaving the station who had no plates on their car and limo tint. Maybe it's just me, but I am a firm believer that those who enforce the laws should be setting an example to the public.

Pet Peeves should be reserved for the black eyes on society. I just see too many LEO's getting hung up on the frivolous infraction citation thing!! The practice of writing tickets is another form of tax levied on the community. Of course there are those traffic offenders who must be cited for blatent violations that are dangerous and hazardous,,and there are those who just talk themselves right into the ticket based on lies and poor attitude. For the most part I cannot get any job satisfaction out of stabbing a good honest tax paying citizen. My job satisfaction comes from arresting bad guys and helping the community by eliminating the black eyes!

FWIW, most cars have a UV tinting on them from the factory. The harmful rays are blocked out by this. If you look by the factory logo on the window it will indicate if it has UV protection or not.

FWIW, most cars have a UV tinting on them from the factory. The harmful rays are blocked out by this. If you look by the factory logo on the window it will indicate if it has UV protection or not.

My car is an 04 and I've drive it bout 3 years before I got tint and it doesnt feel like it has anything. I did notice that logo you're speaking of but I dont feel like Nissan actually did it. Also you want to protect against UVA as well as UVB. Not sure what tint protects against but I feel much better after driving in the sun with tint. Just my personal experience...

I left the PD for this reason. I had internal conflict. The admin didn't really care for all the felony dope arrests, felony warrant arrests, 10851 pursuits, head crackin, and all the effective cop work,,,they wanted TICKETS!!! I call BS.

I have been with my current Sheriff's Dept. for 16 years now and don't have to deal with that insulting BS. At the Sheriff's Dept. they like good arrests and good community LE work! It's on and Crackin at the Sheriff's Dept!!!!!!

lrchops. i can respect your position, I find the charge being the only charge to be quite frivolous. running for warrants and such, yah, I agree even if someone has multiple tint tickets that ticketing would be somewhat ok, but, then again, why is any officer giving a ticket for just tint in the first place, for them to have multiple tint tickets? oh i remember........self deleted the rest of what i wrote.....i'll stop again now

I see a lot of cars rolling around with the windows down lately in the cold when I park at the intersection waiting for a California roll. I know why they do it but I don't really care. If I t-stop one and they have an attitude, I ask them roll up the window and I ding them as need be.

DMV doesn't inspect squat.

They verify the VIN of out of state vehicles and verify engine type so they know if the file needs to be flagged for smog checks.

They can barely do the VIN check correctly. I've had to correct them on multiple occasions when they have mis-read stamped numbers.

Its a $129 fine and you don't have to take it off. I get tickets about every 6 months but I like having the tint. No one can see what you have sitting in your car when its parked or if anyone is even sitting in it.

Bingo, Stay the hell out of my business and I will stay out of yours. I feel it is extra insurance for those of us with excess AV equipment.

My rear windows have factory 20% privacy glass, and the whole truck has 5% on all the windows. The windshield has 75%

I think I will be getting 20-30% applied over the limo on the front to match up with the rear windows.

I've been stopped numerous times specifically for window tint. They all end with the officer saying they just wanted to see who was in the car and a few compliment me on it. Last I saw, it is now a $178 ticket in Orange County. Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, especially when it was $10 a couple years ago.

Get a prescription from your doctor for window tint. Dermatologists know exactly what to write down. Sun exposure causes skin cancer.
