My car is an 04 and I've drive it bout 3 years before I got tint and it doesnt feel like it has anything. I did notice that logo you're speaking of but I dont feel like Nissan actually did it. Also you want to protect against UVA as well as UVB. Not sure what tint protects against but I feel much better after driving in the sun with tint. Just my personal experience... -
my bro's father in law felt exactly the same way and he said his department would constantly get on his case about not writing enough citations...hes retired now but talks about it all the time.Pet Peeves should be reserved for the black eyes on society. I just see too many LEO's getting hung up on the frivolous infraction citation thing!! The practice of writing tickets is another form of tax levied on the community. Of course there are those traffic offenders who must be cited for blatent violations that are dangerous and hazardous,,and there are those who just talk themselves right into the ticket based on lies and poor attitude. For the most part I cannot get any job satisfaction out of stabbing a good honest tax paying citizen. My job satisfaction comes from arresting bad guys and helping the community by eliminating the black eyes!Leave a comment:

FWIW, most cars have a UV tinting on them from the factory. The harmful rays are blocked out by this. If you look by the factory logo on the window it will indicate if it has UV protection or not.I run 15% window tint up front and honestly I dont care about that specific law because the benefits greatly outweigh the possible fix-it ticket I get from it. The prices for this violation have gone up dramatically I heard, to something like $200 + removal of tint = total of like $300 when you're all set and done.
I have been a little more paranoid as of late so I pull my windows down if i saw LEO's but its worth it. Ive been an avid cyclist for a very long time and I think that I will probably have skin cancer issues at my rate so I want to minimize it as much as possible. Driving on the 405 south to work is alot of time with your arms and face exposed to the sun. To me its just not worth it.
Also it helps with sunlight and I can keep my windows up and the AC off to save on gas.
I think the law is BS...it should be like other hot as hell states and have no law for front window tint...Leave a comment:

I am a firm believer of giving verbals at times, but tint would happen to be a pet peeve, especially people who have multiple citations for tint. Even better, would be those who FTA on tint tickets. I was on a stop the other night in front of a certain PD station in the Los Angeles Area and I got a good laugh at the amount of off duty officers leaving the station who had no plates on their car and limo tint. Maybe it's just me, but I am a firm believer that those who enforce the laws should be setting an example to the public.Leave a comment:

EDIT: Oh I got a fix-it ticket for this about a year and a half ago...was a BS ticket and would of never gotten it if some ahole didnt steal my license plates. I filed a police report and got everything squared away, next day on my way to work i get pulled over for no license plate. Once I showed the LEO that my plates were stolen and showed him my police report, I guess he felt like the stop was a waste so he gave me a fix-it ticket for the tint...meh roll with the punchesLeave a comment:

Really? I only pull people over to see if they have warrants, parole, probation, search and/or arrest. How do you get any job satisfaction out of writing tinted window tickets?Just my two cents. Every time I pull someone over and intend to give them a fix it ticket, I check their prior convictions to determine if they have had priors for the same offense. If so, I make the ticket non-correctable pursuant to V.C. 40610 which gives peace officers authority to make a correctable offence, non-correctable if we have reason to believe the violator will not comply with a fix it ticket. The fine for a violation of V.C. 26708.5(a) (Window tint) is in the $250 range in my county.Leave a comment:

As said here, the letter of the law for Cal is no after market tint applied to forward windows. It's another one of those nanny-state laws that over reacts to a very small minority of bad people that inhibits all the vast majority of good normal people. I believe the LE unions fight and lobby against the law being changed.
It is a bullcrap law of course, since many States allow some degrees of tint placed there and it is no problem. It is not just UV that is bad, but all the light heat that can be blocked with decent tint which comes at you the driver and passengers, and the interior of your car. Of course, too much tint is a bad idea since it can degrade night time driving as well as look terrible anyway. I believe a common sense change in the Cal law is to allow some degree of lighter tints in the forward windows.
However there is the spirit of the law too. I actually have aftermarket tint applied to all windows (except of course windshield) on one of my rides, but it is pretty light. There is no problem with visual acuity and I am not hiding behind a thick wall of tint, you can see through to me fine - but my leather interior is very happy for it as well as I. Never been pulled for it, I think because it isn't a problem for anyone. Of course I probably could get a fix it from someone on a pencil pushing mission.Last edited by odysseus; 02-26-2011, 3:13 PM.Leave a comment:

I got pulled over in the afternoon in the slow lane on the freeway doing the speed limit for nothing more than the lightest tint on the front side windows. And since I had tint on all 3 back windows I got a ticket for no outside mirror on the passenger side. (1970 Chevelle.)
just fix it tickets, but for the CHP that was plenty to pull me over on the freeway just to check me out.Leave a comment:

The tint gives us great P.C.
It's not like it's the crime of the century but if you had many convictions for it and you don't learn, then you probably will get another one.
Never quite understood why you tint the front anyway. It's illegal and it obscures your view at night.Leave a comment:

Years ago, I had the chance to use a tint meter on loan from SFPD. I measured my stock crown vic and the stock front windows were 92% transmission. We started citing at anything under 90%. In plain English, anything, tint or otherwise, applied to your front windows is illegal. You can decide whether you want to drain your bank account with correctable cites and reapplication of illegal tinting.Leave a comment:
