Lost a buddy on the 19th

A fellow deputy who I first met at Industry Station in 1978 when I rode on one of my RDOs every week while working the jail just died. I saw and spoke with him for 3 months while stationed at Idt. on a special program and from 1982 to 1987 when assigned there as a patrol deputy. We occasionally worked a radio car together. He was a good guy and a dedicated deputy.

He had already retired like me and last year he broke a hip. We were both in our late 50s, so it wasn't like he was some ancient guy. There were complications from the hip surgery and he developed sepsis. I spoke to his wife who I had met years before and she said he was in ICU. Since I had just recovered from MRSA from my trip to the Barstow Shoot in July, I told her I wouldn't visit until he was home. She said they removed his hip replacement so the infection would heal and they would redo it in 2011.

She let him know that I called and gave him my best and it seemed to cheer him up a bit. When he did get home, he sent me an email that we would get together when he was all healed. He didn't live that far from me and I couldn't wait until he said it was ok to come over.

I, like many retired lasd sworn personnel, belong to a site that sends us email about the dept., events for retirees and info about both active and retired leos. On the 18th, I received an email stating he was back in the hospital in ICU and they had had to revive him twice.

Today on the 20, an email was sent that he had died on the 19th. The next email will be for his funeral arrangements and of course I will go, just like I did in Dec. for another deputy from the same station.

Goodbye Deputy Daniel Tucker, you were a good man, a good deputy and a brother. I salute you.

I know Ron-Solo knows him and possibly one or two other members who worked Idt. back then.

I went thru the academy with his wife, as well as worked with Danny for several years at Industry Station. He retired as a driver's training instructor at EVOC in Pomona.

He was a great guy. Rest in Peace my friend.

Retired, if you hear about funeral arrangements please let me know. Maybe we can drive in together.
