I spend a lot of time in the Handguns forum. We just had a huge discussion about this over several posts. Some of which were closed. I don't know any of those screen names you mentioned very well, but then, they are not any of the ones I am referring to. I probably can't show you an example, but it has happened. And not just once or twice. And I didn't say well known LEOs, I simply said known LEOs. That is, people who openly state that they are LEOs. I'm sorry bro, but it happens quite often.

What do you mean my birth certificate expired? -
I know I have done what he has said above....However, it was done with my new found freedom as a resident of Nevada....Not a CA LEO."Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."~M.Twain~Comment

I hang with plenty of LEO's that are cool as hell...but I still get pissed when I get a speeding ticket, lol! That, however, is them doing there job so I never hold it agianst them and yes, I'm jealous that they can get all the nice weapons when I'm just as qualified a shooter as they are, and even more important is how Kalifornia does not respect the 2nd amendment, but most cops I know think it's wrong that citizens are robbed of their rights to defend themselves. Most understand a well-trained citizenship will reduce crime and protect victims during a crime. Bottom line I think we're just jealous they get to carry legally, and get to have high capacity mags and no bullet button....but I personally respect LEO's for the most part, however I do know a few that really have no business being cops.Comment

Officer DOWN! Somebody call a WAAAAH-MBULANCE!!! No, just kidding. Seriously though...we should leave the cops alone.Comment

Such a well thought out reply and then you mess it up with the bolded addition.I think many of us (myself included) tend not to voice our positive opinions of LEOs enough but, when a LEO does something illegal or immoral we express our opinions. I have been in or around LE all my life and I can't stand the LEOs who have superiority complexes and/or the "us vs. them" mentality. I probably get thhat from my father who retired after 31 years as a Federal LEO and also spent several years as a local reserve when I was a baby. Anyway, I'm sorry if anyone ever reads any of my anti-bad cop posts and misreads them in such a way as to think that I'm anti LE. I'm not. I am anti-unconstitutional laws and anti-bad cop though.
Both you and the OP are way too close minded. I don't care what uniform one is wearing. If they are a disgrace to the uniform, they deserve a lot more than just getting bashed on an internet forum.
The OP isn't talking about the "one bad apple" threads. And you now this. I think you had a moment of weakness and wanted to bash in a non-bash thread is all.
I forgive you.
JustinFor any questions contact me by email.
Thanks,
Justin

LEO
I normally do not like to get involved in non-firearm related discussions but, since it is a community of single and separate minds, it is exactly that! A community of single separate minds.
"the most part, we wish ALL law abiding citizens had CCW rights, we support UOC, we wish the 'roster' would go away and we realize how worthless the AW and mag ban laws are......We are on the side of the 'CalGuns' community.........Natural allies......."
"So why do we continue to put up with it? Why are we still on 'CalGuns' ? Personally, I think it's cuz we love a good fight !!!"
You say "WE" as if you speak for the entire LEO community but, it cannot be said that ALL LEO's agree with your views on CCW rights and UOC. Same can be said with many members on here that are for or against CCW and UOC for all with or without restrictions. Since experience plays a huge role on how people perceive other groups, it can be said that, many have had good and/or bad experiences with LEO's which may affect their outlook(whether it was their fault or not lol). There will always be those that support the LEO community and those that oppose the use of LEO powers. It doesn't make anything better by stereotyping groups as many have said already "US vs. Them."
The ONE thing Calguns does between LEOS and non-LEOS is bring about understanding, communication, and education on guns, ownership, applicable laws and concerning guns here in california. Just as many firstime gun owners learned about the legality of the bullet button, so have many LEOs that may have believed that all AR and AK rifles are "assault weapons" thus, "squashing" any possible confrontations that may have been bad for either side.
In conclusion, tolerance and understanding goes a long way when cruising these forums.Last edited by KALIDAWG8996; 11-16-2010, 2:10 PM.Comment

Eh. I will jump in here.
There seems to almost always be an US vs THEM mentality.
I used to frequent motorcycle boards, and while the majority of members could really care less if a person was a LEO or not (we were all there to ride motorcycles) you are always going to get the minority that has not only had bad experiance with LEO's but feel it is their obligation in life to strike when they can.
lavgrunt - dont take this personal, I know you are human and things wear people down, but you of all people need to have thicker skin.
You have chosen a profession that requires you to be of a higher calling. You have to set the example and if you do something wrong and are caught, you will usually suffer the most severe penalities just because you are a LEO.
That is what you have chosen. So while I totally understand being upset, or angry or not feeling wanted, remember, in most cases it is going to be a small minority that is making you feel that way.
So I would just ignore them, I mean find out who they are so if you ever pull them over for a traffic stop you can personally help them with an attitude adjustment.
But in the end, you have to be above it.
So hang around, let it go and just realize some people are just filled with hatred and will always find a target to throw darts at.1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
2 Corinthians 3:3
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.Comment

Yes there are the few always out to show the bad cops and make assumptions about them all that way, and there are cops who try to find the bad in people. The noisy ones get the press when in reality the majority is silent too often.
It fascinates me why people hate cops because they got caught doing something illegal. And then if their stupid act got a person hurt they whine that there wasn't a cop around to keep order.
I think what you are experiencing here is the maturity level of the board, the self-respect of the users, and the thoughtlessness of a few who should think hard before hitting the ENTER key."If Jesus had a gun he would be alive today"-Homer SimpsonComment

Seems to me that being a police officer would have to be a difficult job. When you run into good people you're often telling them they messed up and it will cost them. All too often you meet people that none of us would want to have to deal with.
I can't blame you for not wanting to put up with hostile BS on your free time. But Calguns is a better forum for your input. I hope you can see that the unpleasantness you get here is from a vocal minority.
thank you for your service.

An old prof of mine used to say...

"the folks that get it the worst on calguns. UPS, Fedex, and USPS workers."
I'm a retired LEO, collecting 3% @ 50, CCW (H.R. 218), and married to a USPS mail carrier!!! Its over for me..."Et tu, Brute?"
Seriously though the "bashing" here hurts Calif gun owners. I'm not asking that members kiss a LEO's rear end either though. There are a lot of LEO's that collect guns, hunt, shoot, pro 2nd amendment & etc. And I mean a LOT. There was a memo from a larger district attorney's office one time acknowledging that deer hunting season was fast approaching. They wanted to know the officers hunting schedules so they could schedule court accordingly!
Can you imagine Calguns wanting to do a information booth at a function and requesting LEO Calgun members presence to show support for gun owners? After reading what I've seen on this forum I wouldn't do it. I've put up with a lot of things in my career (on the street and with management). I'm too old to deal with or want the hassles any longer. I know its only from a small amount of members, but I just wouldn't do it.Comment
