Chilling story. THIS is why I have a Kel Tec SU 16 CA instead of an AR with a BB. My next purchase will be the CA legal Benelli MR1 that has been modified with a non pistol grip butt stock. Gun owners and store employees continue to tell me that I should get whatever I want as long as I have a BB installed. However, as this story illustrates, there are still a few LEOs out there who are clueless. Please let me know when there's written documentation that I can carry that clarifies the law for Los Angeles LEOs (similar to Sacramento and San Diego). Then I will feel confident with a BB.Comment

Congrats on getting the rifles back. If CHP damaged the rifles, they should pay for the damages, IMO. Next time, tell your son to always bring a copy of the AW Flowchart & the PD memos.I am the mom of the young man in question-rifles returned today and they were damaged. The return of legal rifles says not guilty and innocent.
Davis is handling this matter and he is fantastic!!!
I pray that this does not happen to anyone else.
The four CHP gentlemen (three on the scene-two officers, one Sgt) and the Lt that we talked to later did not know CA law regarding the OLL bullet buttons.
That was four out of four CHP that we had dealings with that were ignorant of CA law and penal code.
My son has 5 herniated disks (MRI results) from the car accident that preceded the confiscation of his OLL CA legal rifles. The two CHP officers and Sgt kept my son illegally detained in the middle of 101 for three hours and denied requested medical care.
This is against CHP manual training and proper procedure and it is NOT SOP.
And there is no excuse for it.
I have great respect for the job you do and I respect LEOs.
BUT as a mother, I take great issue with the ridiculous way the CHP treated my son in this incident.
And before you go there, the Lt. and Sgt stated to us that our son is a "really nice kid" and was "very polite." That was good, because our son's good manners was probably kept our son from being arrested on erroneous/incorrect charges.
I will post the rest of the sorted story when all is completed and I am able to do so.
The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach and my son's heart is broken over this matter-up until this incident my son worshiped LEOs and the ground they walk on.
His faith in the integrity of the CHP is badly shaken.
And with good and valid reason.

i feel bad for LEOs...i still want to be one so bad but no test dates where im at. u guys get knocked for not knowing one thing out of a ***** ton of things u do know and never hear the end of it. like the guy at best buy who doesnt know info on a 3d tv, they get reamed by the old man for not knowing anything about the tv lol. /rant sort of.
get an ar, shoot it responsibly and legally. if an officer pulls up and is asking u questions dont be a smart *** about laws this and that just say yes/no sir/maa'am.Last edited by retired; 10-06-2010, 11:35 PM.Comment

If I were you, I would avoid Turners, lol. Every blue moon they might have a good deal, but Turners is a rip off. They charge an additional five dollar handling fee, on-top of the $25 DROS fee. You end up walking out spending $30, instead of $25. for those of you that live in Riverside, Centerfire Firearms does the same thing. I would like to recommend you to Bullseye Sport in Riverside. I have yet to find a shop that can touch the prices they have over there. I saw a fully assembled Delton AR-15, chambered in .223 Remington for about $695. That is a really good price, considering Turners will sell you the same gun, for like $300 more, lol! The drive from LA to Riverside is worth it in my opinion. Those of you who don't mind making the drive, the place is not far from the 91 freeway and Arlington street. If you folks are interested, I can post the address, and directions.

Sorry if this has been asked before , & the DOJ didn't give me a straight answer so here we go . If there are no ca doj approved bullet buttons than why are we required to have them installed ?Comment
-
(A)DOJ hasn't given their "stamp of approval" for ANY BB's. They are still pouting for people finding BRD happiness in CA.
(B)We are required to have them to be legal. If your rifle has a pistol grip, it NEEDS to have a BB or other 'non-detachable' design. Or it's a lifetime loss of firearm "privileges" courtesy of Uncle Sam.

Spoke to a police officer at the Ontario gun show today and he said he's certain that he has seen an internal advisory memo regarding the legality of bullet buttons. He could not recall if it was LAPD or LA Sheriffs. Are any LEOs aware of this? Said memo would provide such peace of mind to us law abiding citizens who live in the LA area. What is the benefit of ambiguity? Especially since Sacramento and Orange County PDs have issued bullet button memos.Last edited by centurycitygun; 10-09-2010, 10:15 PM.Comment

+1. It is now widely known within CHP that bullet button equipped AR's are legal. There may be a few old dinosours out there that are stubborn but that is inevitable. A lot of guys that are sworn that I know are making them persoanally. It is a big sigh of relief in LE communtities that we (as well as you) can now have a legal alternative. Rest easy bro... not all cops are against you.Well, I take every opportunity to educate my fellow LEOs about bullet buttons and such so they don't do something stupid and arrest someone who doesn't need to go to the pokey. Plus, most end up getting one themselves. I've built about 15 lowers for LE friends who weren't confident enough to build thier own.
Hopefully, some day we will no longer need bullet buttons.Comment

If your response is directed to Ron, I am pretty sure he is also LE.
Good to know there is progress on the bullet button ARs. Can not wait to get my pair of new rifles completed.NRA Life Member
