Depending on length of service and/or assignments, cancer is a presumptive. Cops are actually exposed to much moe than the hose draggers in the respect that we get there first and determine what is going on. They show up and have all of their safety/protective gear on and are not subject to the unprotected raw nature of an incident like LEOs are.

One of my long time friends had his colon cancer validated as presumptive after 25 years on the job. He now has a colostomy bag and his career is over but thankfully he had enough years in for the Workman's Comp to be effective.

This is very sad to hear. Such a young man to have passed so early. Condolences to his family and friends. Although I have to say, all this talk about angels and stuff smacks of lip service and crocodile tears. JMHO

Until you've walked in my shoes, and been to as many LE funerals as I have in the last 32+ years, your comment is inappropriate and offensive. I personally worked with many guys whose names are now on the County, State, and National Peace Officers Memorial. Several of those guys were personal friends.

We all deal with the loss in our own way, and for you to mock anything posted here is just WRONG!

I'll quit now before I say what I really feel and get banned.

                          Wow man .

Anytime a life is cut short it's sad, but when a person make's it his job to watch over and possibly give his life for the greater good. We all lose out.
To hear of such a your man die of cancer is horrible, and he will be missed by his family, freinds and community.

I've been to LEO funerals, they are something that I will never forget. Lip service and Crocodile tears, nope, not from me.
There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Yes, he chose his profession and if I had to bet, I say he didn't choose to be eaten alive by cancer. A young man loses his young life to such a horrible disease and you feel the need to post such an insensitive and rude comment? Go ahead and hide behind that couch because you know your comment was uncalled for. Wow!

After reading the postings here by all those that have been kind enough to reply I say thank you.

It reminds me why after 30 years of the grind I am glad this profession chose me.

I lost one of my deputies last year to brain cancer. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to deal with in 32 years of this job. He was fine at Halloween and gone before Christmas.

He was a 27 year veteran and left a wonderful wife, 4 kids and 3 grandkids behind.
