Try timing them. There was a case, if I recall correctly, where that was the issue. There regulations for the minimum time the yellow light should be on (I believe, 4.3 sec, but I might be wrong).

I believe it is one second for every 10 MPH of the posted speed limit.

        It depends.

The minimum time that a traffic signal controller will allow to be input is 3.0 seconds, but the actual time it determined by a formula that factors the speed limit, number of lanes, and width of the intersection (and there are variations in standards from state to state).

3.5 seconds would be too short for an intersection with two crossing major arterials and a 45mph limit, but 4.0 seconds would be too long for a small intersection in a residential area.

The MUTCD specifies that the time must be between 3.0 and 6.0 seconds.

          Absolutely.

And it doesn't just impact the driver that you cited or those who saw you with him pulled over.
I can't count the number of times I've heard comments such as "When they say 35 on Alondra, they mean it!"
This will come not only from someone who got a ticket, but also from someone who has seen someone else pulled over.

So how I was taught in regards to yellows turning to reds is, if my vehicle enters the intersection while its a yellow light, even if it turns to red I'm okay legally.....but I've heard of people getting red light violations who entered into a yellow, which turned red and when they crossed the line in the middle of the intersection triggering the camera it took their photo and they got a ticket.

Can some LEO's just clarify what the law is??
-As others have stated, I don't like the camera's and think they are purely for revenue. I also slow down whenever I see a cop car and as someone stated am influenced in my driving by just seeing a traffic stop.

FYI, Mythbusters says if you drive at 135mph you will be going too fast for the cameras to see you.

Yes, he/she can ask. You are misunderstanding the 5th Amendment and its restrictions.

There are a LOT of things that we can ask without running afoul of 5A issues.

As usual, TV & movies gives people the wrong impression of the real world adn how it functions. It's kind of like a 9mm round making a car explode. It makes for a good effect, but isn't real life.

It is perfectly legal and Constitutional for him to ask you anything he wants to ask you.

The sensors are behind the stop bar (crosswalk)... not in the middle of the intersection.

Okay I hope he doesn't get mad if I laugh or look dumbfounded. Then again if he gets confessions and crimes are solved because of it, all I can say is wow.

There are a lot of people out there who know their rights.

There are a lot of very stupid criminals who talk themselves right into jail.

Be thankful for stupid criminals, like the one that went to the front counter at the station and asked for "his" weed back.... the weed that was confiscated the night before and he swore it "wasn't his and didn't know how it got there".
