You should shoot the duty ammo to see if the duty pistols are functioning properly.
That's a great piece of advice. My full sized USP has functioned flawlessly with duty ammo however I was talking to another deputy about two weeks ago who said his USPc would hang up on the last round with duty ammo but not with range ammo.

Side note-- I was talking to some range staff about the new HK45 and they were unaware of it but said if it was basically set up like the USP they should be able to grandfather it in. Now that would be a hot duty gun.

Can you guys(LASD) carry the M&P Compact as an on duty back up weapon or can you only carry it off duty?

Yes, this is off topic too, but I think I may have you all beat. I recall all of the old stuff you have mentioned, plus I recall riding in Novas on my station rides and the Chevelle when I got to patrol.

Oh, btw, I only used my 92f as all of the others mentioned except for the USP 45 weren't permitted when I was on.

I know there is a price factor and extra cert class in that question, but aside from that?... I'm trying to determine what single platform to use (full size and compact). For me, the P2000 is a known standard (very reliable) but I can by both a full size an compact M&P for just a few hundred bucks more than a single P2000sk.
Maybe someday. I bought the P2000 first. The M&P compact didn't feel as good in my hand as the P2000.

I like the one of everything theory.

I remember driving a small ford, I guess it was LTD or something back in late 80's.. It was pretty small..And I carried S&W 686 with Hoyt holster.

I drove a Nova when I first went to LKD in 81. Most of the cars were Malibu's but we still had 3 Novas with high miles on them. They got issued to the newbies. I loved them. S&W 66 4" in a Hoyt holster for me until we went to Berettas. Big square light bars, outside speakers, no handheld radios, Gonzalez saps, the good old days.

1982 was the big Plymouth Fury, 83 Malibu, 84-85 LTD (the small one) 86 began the Caprice run.....

The Department now has 20 2009 MINI Coopers. Electric test vehicles. They're fun to drive.

Went to LACERA today for the first time today. Looking like March of 2011 to hang it up. Kind of wierd feeling.

                Sorry to thread jack.

I remember outside speaker. The first handheld radio was so simple, actually I liked it. The new ones they use now looks too complicated. I don't even know how to turn it on, I think.

I have a well broken in 245 sap. It is nice. Maybe I should go to the LACERA also. I am looking at March 2015.

My old department "Chicago" approved M&Ps which I think is a wise choice. I was surprised to learn though as of 1 Jan 10 any new duty pistols must be striker fired. No more Beretta or Sigs unless you already had one. Now that I'm long retired thank God and George Bush for HR-218 allowing retired LEOs to carry in all 50 states.
