    Nice Gun JC,

Good luck on training. I did 10 1/2 years at LKD total (4 deputy, 6 1/2 sgt) and 3+ at IDT before Walnut opened up, another 4 at WAL/SDM.

    Be safe

Congrats on getting out on parole....I mean patrol!

It's been a crazy week...I worked Sun but then had the AR class Mon and Tues...Prone in the rain...YAY! Never been so soaked during training...Eotechs were soaked, guns soaked, belt, clothes, me....Soaked. I had to completely break down and oil my P226, all three mags, the AR mags, we cleaned the AR's three or four times, and my Sam Browne and boots are still wet...Tons of fun though and the new AR course is about a million times better than (what I've heard of) the old one. Lots of practical scenarios from team drills, room entry/clearing, lateral movement/multiple target drills, spotter/sniper drill, and more. They're even teaching the newer Magpul/3-Gun style forward grip.

Then yesterday I was fortunate to attend a terrorism overview class put on by the LADA CJI. I'm one of those "sky is falling" terrorism/active shooter response guys and though I was expecting it to be a boring admin-type class I went anyway since it's an area I'm interested in pursuing. Well, my initial thought that it would be a boring admin class was big-time wrong! It was some of the best info-training I've been to since Grossman! I had a great time. Of course, I got stuck 5 miles from my house for 45 min when they closed the freeway due to snow. Then I got snowed in today and had to call in. It's been snowing all day and they don't expect it to stop until tomorrow. I'm hoping to dig my way out tomorrow afternoon so I can go to work on Sat (It's a swap so I gotta figure out some way to get there!). I did help a wayward AMR unit get unstuck from the snow....

Looks like you had it tough.

Well, I am here in Las Vegas attending the SHOT show on duty this week. I met most of the Wayside range staff here also. I am tired and beat from all the walking and talking to the manufacturers for the last couple of days. It is a tough assignment, but someone has to do it.

I am just wondering what the driving will be like from I-15 to Hwy 138 to Palmdale and south on Hwy 14 to Santa Clarita on Friday afternoon.

Boy, that is some real rough duty topgun, real rough. But, like you said, someone has to do it.

A little off topic but, you know, it is funny (at least to me) that even tho PJP facility has not been called Wayside officially for years, it is still referred to that way by a lot of people. Do the younger guys call it that too, or is it just the guys like you with 20+ years.

It had changed names before I retired and everyone I worked with still called it Wayside.

            Wayside changed names?!?

TopGun - if you want to play it safe with regard to snow, avoid the 138 entirely. Take SR58 on the south end of Barstow between I15 and SR14. In general its a much safer route even in good weathers

Ok, perhaps my memory fails me, but the last time went there for qualification (1997), I recall the first sign you see mentioning the place said PJ Pitchess, not Wayside. Am I wrong.

It's now called Pitchess Detention Center (PDC)...But lots still call it Wayside, and we all know what you're talking about. I don't know when it was switched.

It will always be Wayside to me.

Just like SCC will always be SRC. And instead of L-Tac we had "Charlie" and "Henry" for car to car talk.

I have an HK P2000 that I carry as my duty weapon. As soon as I can get the certification class, the M&P will be my duty weapon. The HK will remain my off duty due to size.

^^^HK45 GUY- That is what I was thinking, besides when you take the class for the M&P 9mm you will be certified for both the full size and compact, just like the P2000, when I took that class I was authorized to carry the SK as well. Same thing for the P226 and P229.

I used to carry P7M8 for a long time. Then I went to P2000 because it is about the same size as P7M8 except it is a little thicker and carry 5 more rounds. Now I have been carrying P226 since they authorized it. It fits my hands the best, feel more comfortable.

I started with the USP .45 after training. Then switched to the P2000 when I moved over to a detective gig. Now back at patrol I started carrying the P2000 with a TLR-2 on it but after a while felt I wanted a full sized gun so went back to the USP .45 with the TLR-2 on it.

I'm really tempted to goto the M&P as I'd like a full sized polymer 9MM but my HK's have never ever jammed, had an FTF etc so it's sort of a head game more than anything else for me at this point.

I am buying the M&P this week and going to put it through a month or two of range torture. I'll report results.

If you have only shot the training ammo, shoot at least couple of boxes of duty ammo. My USP did not lock up correctly several times with the duty ammo. I found out that the burrs around the case mouth prevented from the slide locking up properly. I have seen it from several deputies also. You should shoot the duty ammo to see if the duty pistols are functioning properly.

IN my cell phone, I have the number for "SRC Bridge", not SCC or other name.
