    No more traffic stops!?!

So the city of Berkeley has decided to spend over $360,000 to "study" their police department and how they can make it do less, they have also create a new "department of transportation" to study traffic enforcement/plan to send unarmed traffic whatevers on traffic stops, and they acknowledge their plan will have "significant" up front costs but may save money down the road... So I guess if you hate traffic stops/DUI's, apply now to Berkeley PD! Might be a fun place for some side show circuses, too!

Also worth noting, the Forbes article (sorry, just bringing some different perspective!) claims "2 officers were assaulted" in 2018 during traffic stops... Yeah; okay, so only my two friends who were shot at in 2018 were the only two assaulted on a traffic stop in the entire US?

Pulling people over without the ability to defend yourself. Will these "civilians" get extra hazard pay?
Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)

I can see it now, I need to see your license, registration and proof of insurance, are you a peace officer, No city of Berkeley Dept of Traffic. Ok have a nice day as they drive off. This assumes they even stop.

Out of the thousands of cars I stopped, I don't recall anyone being particularly happy about it. In fact most of them were down right pissed off.

Meaning the only people to get pulled over and cited are going to be the very easy and very low hanging fruit. If nothing else it's going to be entertaining to watch this whole fiasco
Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.

Not to mention the additional crimes that are discovered during traffic stop contacts..

I’ll be curious how this hashes our... so will these enforcers be 8-5 “peace officers” with limited powers? Who does traffic enforcement at night? Speed contests? DUI’s? Traffic collision reconstruction? What kind of training? How legal is it for them to engage in traffic enforcement without certain training/markings on vehicles/etc? If they find evidence of another crime and the criminal is dumb enough to stick around do they call a real cop? How Ling can they detain someone until a real cop shows up? My guess is they will funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars into studying this and they will either turn into 8-5 traffic cops or be done away with in the end.

I'm not saying it's smart, but there is a ton of them in CA.

                      Or what if...

                      The car is stolen
The driver has a felony warrant
The driver is a felon carrying a loaded gun

I got one or a combination of all three at least once a week when I was on patrol and I wasn't even trying.

Do you honestly think the city will send each and everyone through any type of academy? I'm sure in their minds those are racism indoctrination centers.

It's not about being armed or unarmed. It's the training, that is needs to be of the job, and is required by existing law. The amount of money they are suggesting isn't going to cover hiring, basic equipment, and training, for a department to take over traffic 24/7/365.

                          Of course not.

I'm not supporting this at all, and think it's a court case waiting to happen.

It's really too bad we don't have too many Sovereign Citizens in Ca. That would be fun to watch.
