As a credentialed LEO I don't think being a LEO should mean diddly squat with regard to buying any firearm.

Having said that, and as a very active 2A supporter since the early 1980's I too left moving north, and I have no intentions of ever moving back.

BTW, I called LAPD's firearms unit for clarification of its city ordinance banning standard cap mags. Apparently, the initial ordinance applied to off-duty cops and retired cops. I was told by an LAPD cop that I could legally bring my standard cap mag (12 rounds of .40 S&W) into his city as the ordinance has been modified to exclude those who are listed in CPC 25450: http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...0.&lawCode=PEN

I'm bailing too, 31 years of service. Sat down with my Calpers advisor in San Bernardino the other day, it's finally a reality. I cant raise my son here, the new reality of lawlessness will NOT be his reality.

The way things are going here, I can only imagine how bad it will be in just five years. AB109, Prop47 and the removal of the bail schedule (Talked about for two years) is becoming a reality.

We are beginning to resemble a failed nation state like Mexico, fast forward 5-10 years and I can see it as a reality.

The only down fall to a non federal employee job is AZ is a right to work state and doesnt recognize unions. So to date, the living wage gets father apart from the cost of living. This is why the starting wage for a State of Arizona firefighter is 29k a year. The king doesnt chip off his gold too often for COLAs.

That's the same or a little more than Maine. State Police have to have a 2 year degree and start at under $30k a year. That's the norm. Cost of living, if you count in the 6-7 months of winter and snow, rivals Hawaii and California. Especially if you use baseboard heat throughout the winter. It could cost as much as $800 a month for your electric bill alone. $29k a year is a lot of money for some states. Keep that in mind.

OP: congrats! I am leaning at moving back to Oregon. Similar weather and not crowded like Southern California and no bs rules and regulations in regards to firearms. If I want an SBR again I will buy it and there is absolutely nothing the state of California can do about it.

The reality and bigger picture is California is going to ****. We have liberal leaders and the population is just to much. Those are two very big problems I don't see ever being fixed. If you can move do it!

I left for many of the same reasons you stated. The recent gas tax hike only served to validate my decision. I think California is going to get much worse before it has any chance of getting better and I genuinely feel for the those who have to stay for whatever reason.

Six years left and I will hit KMA time. The question is where to retire; I had a friend who is medically retired relocate to Boise, and other friends have relocated to the South or Midwest. I was thinking Northern AZ or NV, which ever has a better quality way of life. I would also like to start a second career not in LE or related; as much fun the Job has been in my past, the last few years have been mentally and physically draining. The Millennials sure sapped the fun out of a great career, but then again, I am sure past generations of LEO's said the same thing about Generation X.

We must remember that millennials are not sitting in a judge's seat, sitting as command staff, or holding most elected offices (aka where most of our "new" grief comes from)... the millennials are the just the ones committing crimes or holding a protest.

i was in az near casa grande and the phoenix area a few weeks ago when the wind was really blowing. while enroute on i10 during darkness we ran into a mini sand storm that was not fun at all. in fact the wind was blowing pretty good the next few days while we were there kicking up a lot of sand. other than that, that is the state i want to move to now that i have been retired for years. gas was almost a buck cheaper and you can get a bag when making a purchase without some nut thinking you're screwing up the world. of course we had to check out some gun shops while we were there. i saw handguns for sale that i have only seen pictures of and of course to most az residents, guns are no big deal. but the only thing stopping me from moving there is not the extreme heat, but the haboobs which they get every year and some of them unexpectedly.

Im going up north, Gods country man. Big pines, mild summers and even milder winters. Cant wait. Look up Prescott/Prescott valley/Flagstaff.

Im not LE but I have 24 years in fire. I have 2-4 years left. We have looked hard at Northern Arizona and have settled on Chino Valley. Love that area. Im planning on filling my days with team roping, doing some day work for ranches and exercising my constitutional rights with like minded free folks. Mama is not so keen on the winters in Wyoming or Idaho and neither am I for that matter. Just got my Arizona CCW and hopefully buying soon to start establishing residency for my kids to finish college.

If all goes as planned, the family will be vacationing there in June. I have never been to see Mt. Rushmore. This will be the second year we have done a nice long road trip. Last year was a stop in Portland, Oregon (family) than on to Canada (family) and finally Yellowstone. We went thru Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Nevada and Wyoming. I have been doing these trips to see where I might like to live. I still have approx. 11 years to go so I am just exploring my options now.

I went to Mount Rushmore last year when I visited a buddy of mine from active duty. Truly beautiful area. Thank you guys for your law enforcement service and enjoy the retirement you earned.
