Great thread. Perhaps the OP should apply for the early entry program, where you start as a FTO or Sgt. right out of the gate.
We were just joking about a similar topic at work this week. It is very common for uninformed family members of such applicants to exclaim to us at a call, "My nephew works with you guys, he's a cop!" (Oh really, what's his name?).
